Tuesday Style Link up: Daytime Holiday Style

Ladies, can you believe in two weeks it will be Christmas! I love receiving invitations to luncheons with my friends this time of year and actually restyled an outfit I purchased last January for a wonderful holiday outfit for my daytime festivities.

I wore this last January for my post about what color is your personality. I purchased this outfit after the holiday season and knew back then I would be wearing it again this year for the holidays.

I love my red floral jeans and have worn them before with a striped shirt for a post about mixing patterns. Even this outfit would look wonderful for a holiday get together with the girls.

This is a very busy time of year for many of us but I enjoy spending time with my friends whether it’s for a movie, girl’s night out, or on the golf course.

As I have gotten older I find that socializing and enjoying other people’s company is a wonderful way of maintaining a sense of connectedness to others and is an important component of stress reduction. I am so busy as an interior designer that I look forward to being with women who enjoy my company and not my talents.

Why Socialization is so Important during the Holidays

Do you ever think about the benefits of getting dressed and showing up?

I also think that staying engaged and connected as we get older has health benefits that are a large part of living longer.  My 80ish mother has an extremely active social life and looks forward to her weekly coffee meet-ups whereas my father is now isolating himself because his tennis buddies have passed on. My parents look at their lives differently. My mother is living her life to the fullest and my father is feeling lonely and depressed.

Being healthy is so important as we get older and the healthier we are as we age also helps with our attitude and zest for life. So does staying connected with our friends and family. We need to understand that engaging in social activities as we age is critical to living longer. Do you attend church? Does your family live near to you? Do you stay in contact with your friends on a daily basis? Weekly? Monthly? Or yearly basis? What are you doing to stay connected this holiday season?

I just wanted to share with you my the ladies luncheon that was held at my country club. I thought it was a lovely event at the end of the year where we all showed up to celebrate our friendship and not our golf scores. (However awards were given out but I wasn’t a recipient! Being the best-dressed golfer needs to be added to next year’s award categories!! )

Having a fellowship and connecting with others is the most important thing you can do during the holiday season to avoid depression and loneliness.  How are you socializing and getting out with your family or friends during the holidays?

I would love to know!

This I how I went to the holiday party. It was freezing cold and thought I needed to wear the red cape and turtleneck sweater to the luncheon. I was planning to go light with my restyled outfit but I wore what I thought was a warmer outfit.

What do you think?

Thank you for stopping by!

Merry Christmas!

  3. Hello Robin!
Your mom and dad sound like how mine were. It is so important to socialize! My hubby is more of an introvert and I love to talk to people. We go to The Cottage which is a favorite hangout where we know many of the people and it is like family. I will go out this Holiday season and get my nails done with a friend and go to lunch. I do think you live longer with social connections.
Your outfit is beautiful. Red is so striking on you!
    Have a great day!

      Jess,

It’s amazing how being socially active can help you live longer because you aren’t sitting home alone.
My mother doesn’t feel 80ish because she is also going out for coffee, lunch, and playing bridge with her friends.
My father feels old and alone because he has lost friends and recently had to quit playing tennis because of balance issues. Tennis was his way of being socially active.

      Merry Christmas!

Thank you my friend for your lovely comments!
I think it’s important to connect with other but we need to get up, get dressed, and get out the door.
I wonder if social media is the only way lonely people connect with others?

I am so glad we have connected!
      Merry Christmas!
