About Robin LaMonte

Welcome to my blog, “Hello I’m 50ish”!
I am so glad you stopped by.
I want to tell you a little bit about myself.
I am a professional 50ish woman who is a highly successful interior designer, mother of 4 adult children, and loves good food, wine, and laughter.
I will share my expertise as an interior designer for baby boomers, but I will also share my fashion style as a  normal middle aged woman who wants to look chic and classy but isn’t  fashion model thin.
I believe in aging gracefully and authentically, one wrinkle at a time.
I will share my travels to other cities and countries that are on my “Bucket List” and  sprinkle in posts about my family and what it’s like to be a woman of a certain age.

I hope you enjoy my blog and please feel free to leave me a comment or write to me if you have any questions.

                      A little Background:

My first Career: Flight Attendant

My first career was being a flight attendant in the late 70’s until 1986. I had so much fun flying and enjoyed the cities I stayed at on our overnites.
I come from an airline family. My father flew for Northwest Airlines, and my 3 brothers are airline pilots for Delta and American. It was a wonderful career I  flew in my late 20’s and 30’s and was based in Atlanta. Back in the day when many airports did not have jetways and we walked outside to get to the terminal. Anyone remember those days?

Here I am as a brunette { natural} and at a weight I haven’t been at since 1980. Those were the good old days!

My Family

I left flying the friendly skies in 1986 to marry a passenger I had on my flight to Kansas City in 1984. He was in the right place at the right time. I call it fate.
He thought he was on a nonstop flight from Orlando, but he “puddle jumped” with me on 3 intermediate stop before our destination, Kansas City.
Together we have built a wonderful life with 4 wonderful children.
I stayed home to raise the children and became an avid gardener and cook. My decorating skills were honed during that time. I faux painted, wallpapered, sewed custom bedding, window treatments, and redesigned every room in the house.
My 4 children are grown now, on their new journeys and careers, but have returned to my nest this past year (unexpected but certainly welcomed) to build up their income in search of their new nest. I have become a parent again to my adult children living under my roof. However I do less chores because I have many hands to help me for the time being.
We will never be empty nesters because our beautiful  daughter Samantha, born with Down Syndrome, will always  live with us and not in a group home. It is our choice to have her with us, but there are other living options for adults with special needs.
My life may resonant with you if you have a disabled child or your adult children have returned to the nest again and we will share our journey together.

My Second Career: Interior Designer

In my 40’s I decided to start a business that would be flexible enough to attend to my children’s school and sport activities. Which meant working from home creating my own hours around my family life.
(It also brought an abrupt halt to wallpapering, faux painting, and sewing my own custom bedding and window treatments. I started to pay my contractors to do what I did for free!)
That is when I decided to be an independent interior designer working from home, but first I went back to school to complete my interior design degree.
I opened the doors to Rooms Revamped Interior Design in 2002 at the age of 45.
I have appeared on Good Morning America, been featured in magazines and on interior design podcasts.
I have been honored to do designer showhouses in New Jersey and Atlanta.
I  hope you will enjoy this blog as I share design advice , fashion style, being a parent to adult children, and the world we live in as midlifers who have so much to offer and the community of women who walk in our shoes.
Please share comments on the posts and if you need advice, I’m here for you.
I look forward to hearing from you!!
