Red, White, and Tie Dyed

Ladies, with the 4th of July coming up this weekend I thought it would be fun to pull out my favorite tie-dyed top from my closet for a red, white, and blue tie-dyed look!

Do you have tie-dyed clothes sitting in your closet? This has been around since the sixties (remember when we wore it?) but it appeared on the fashion runways last spring and again for 2020. What’s old is new again!

Tie-Dye Trending for 2020

Tie-dye clothing made a comeback this year as many women embraced doing DIY projects during the coronavirus while staying at home. Even though the tie-dye fashion was trending before COVID-19 this became another way women could express themselves through clothing.

If you are interested in tie-dying your own clothes I found a great article for you to read.  It’s easy to do and involves a few rubber bands or string tied to certain portions of the garment and then dyeing it on the stovetop or in the washing machine.

Tie-dyed clothes have been around since the 60’s and 70s. Tie-dye that is trending today is simpler and more minimal than versions of the pattern we saw in the late ’60s and early ’70s, which packed more color into one garment than we typically do today.

 

Tie-dye is colorful, happy, and bright. It’s a way to inspire little bits of joy during uncertain times.  It connects our generation to the Millenials who probably wonder what the hippie movement was all about.

How to Wear Tie-Dyed Clothes after 50

Many of you wonder if we can wear today’s tie-dyed fashion as women over 50? Absolutely! This isn’t about reliving our youth but being able to wear the latest trend as an over 50 woman. Today’s tie-dyed fashion is more subdued than it was in the 60s or 70s. It’s how we wear it that makes it work for us.

My tie-dyed tunic is only two colors and a very simple pattern. Nothing crazy loud but it works because it’s a pop of color against the white sandals, leggings, and the denim jacket.  Using only two colors like the indigo blue and white is perfect for a woman over 50.  Look for tie-dyed pieces that are tailored for your style.

I prefer long tunics and flowy tops when shopping for tie-dyed clothing myself. You should always purchase clothes that work for YOU, as a woman over 50.

This year we’re going o be in Park City and we haven’t decided on entertaining this weekend. We’re still getting the house decorated and want to wait until it’s presentable!
