What is Your Real Age?

Hello, my wonderful friends! It’s a new year for a new you! Are you like me when it comes to feeling younger than your age? Even though I’m 64, I don’t feel 64. Are you curious to find out what your REAL AGE is?

What is Your Real Age?

Here’s a question for you, ” What age would you be if you didn’t know your age?”

I asked this question on Instagram and amazingly many people who responded to my question felt they would be younger than the age they actually are. I wonder if this is how many of us feel after midlife?

Since I don’t know these women except for being people I enjoy following on Instagram I wonder what makes them think they are young? Perhaps there is something about our lifestyles and emotional health that makes us think we’re younger than our chronological age.

Have a Positive Attitude on Life

Do you have a positive outlook about life and are not a Debby Downer? I think I am always happy and don’t believe in wasting one minute being angry at someone. Life is too short to be angry. They say if you smile, you throw a little feel-good party in your brain. The act of smiling activates neural messaging that benefits your health and happiness.

Smiling can also make you happier, through a process that psychologists call the “facial feedback effect.” This is great news, because, the happier you are, the more likely you will be to engage in activities that keep your body and mind in great shape.

They say that laughter is the best medicine so take it a step further and add more spontaneous laughter to your day. I love watching YouTube videos of puppies to get my smile going in the morning. What makes you smile?

Embrace Your Passions

Do you love learning new things, trying new skills, and going outside of your comfort zone? Women over 50 are beginning new careers, reinventing themselves, and taking up new hobbies because we have more “Me Time.” We are never too old to learn something new and open up to sharing with others. Knowledge is a gift, and once you share it we can all learn.  As I have learned with connecting with women over 50 we all have experiences that help us to be better women after midlife and are willing to share our journeys after 50. We also believe that age is just a number and continue to set out on new adventures that may have many scratching their heads and saying WTF? We are traveling, running marathons, and writing blogs over 50 because we don’t feel the need to slow down. We’re going ahead at full throttle.

“You are never too old to set another goal, or to dream a new dream”- C.S. Lewis

I recently went back to skiing at the age of 64 after being away for 32 years. This was a goal of mine on my birthday to do something that I am still physically able to do because I feel younger than my age.
I wasn’t the only woman that day who was accomplishing her goal to ski. I met some wonderful women in my ski class who were determined to learn how to ski after 40.

Don’t let fear hold you back from your passions.

Do You take care of Yourself with Exercise, Rest, Diet, and Something else?

You know I exercise for my heart health and try to eat healthy because of my heart but I also watch my sugar intake. Eating sugar doesn’t just make you look older—it also makes you feel older, too. By cutting the white stuff out of your diet, you’ll lower your risk of obesity, high blood pressure, inflammation, and feel healthy and youthful while you’re at it.  Yoga and lifting weights are so beneficial to keeping your body strong and limber as well. A 2017 study found those who have high levels of activity have younger cells than those who don’t by nine years. Do you toss and turn at night?  Try lowering the temperature in your room to get a better night’s sleep. I actually sleep with a thin blanket with my feet exposed while my husband says it’s freezing in the room! Our bodies need to cool down to encourage the body to produce melatonin. In addition to promoting sleep, melatonin is also a powerful anti-aging hormone.

How you look on the outside will also affect how you feel about yourself. Are you taking good care of your skin, your hair, and your body? Maybe a new haircut, a little botox, or changing out your wardrobe with some fun pieces.

I purchased this fun silk and felt wrap because it was so cute!   I love whimsical items that make me smile. It is chic and youthful compared to my other wraps. Add some fun clothes to make you feel younger.

Take the AGE TEST

Do you want to know what your real age is? I found this wonderful website that has an Age Test. I took the test and guess what! My real age is 37! Was I surprised? Not at all! Do you know something? I do feel like I’m 37, but I know my body says otherwise.

I would love you to take the test and share with me what your real age is!

My advice for feeling young is to simply stop counting the years and start enjoying your life!

Thanks for stopping by today, my friends!

      So true Nina!
We are doing so much more as women after 50 that even our mothers are impressed with our ambition and drive when society thinks we should be retiring.
      From what???

Ha, Robin, such a fun post! No surprise, I am “young at heart” and 32! Which is exactly how I feel at 44! I am quite literally having the time of my life right now! And your white top is adorable…I can’t blame you for needing to add it to your white shirt collection! I am also really loving your glasses. So cool.

  10. You know what’s funny? When I was working I always felt older than my “real” age. Maybe because of all of the responsibility to my patients and employees?? But now? I totally feel younger and free!!

      Jodie,

I agree that having the freedom to do what you want and not running a business anymore can take away unnecessary stress and make you feel younger!
