How To Style A Sweatshirt | Ageless Style

Ladies, I have a style rule never to wear a sweatshirt except when lounging around or exercising. But rules are made to be broken, especially at my age. So today, my ageless friends and I are styling sweatshirts for our monthly group collaboration. I never thought of wearing a sweatshirt except for exercising or with jeans. So I thought this would be a fun challenge.

Saint and Sofia sponsor this post. However, all opinions are my own.

How to Style a Sweatshirt

As a brand ambassador for Saint and Sofia, I selected this baby blue top, thinking it was a sweatshirt. When I put the word sweatshirt in the search link, a page full of sweaters and tops like this one came up. This top was listed as a sweater, but they don’t have a word for a sweatshirt in the UK! A sweater is a jumper in the UK, so I expected a knitted material for this top. Instead, it feels like many of the cotton sweatshirts that I already have in my closet. The most fundamental difference between a sweater and a sweatshirt is how they’re made. A sweater is crocheted or knitted, whereas a sweatshirt is not. A sweatshirt is made with heavy cotton fabric. A lot of brands call a sweatshirt also a pullover. Things can be so confusing, can’t they?

Dress Up Your Sweatshirt Style

There is nothing better to wear in the spring than a lovely skirt and top. You can easily tuck in your sweatshirt in your favorite skirt. I love this white denim skirt because it’s a workhorse in my wardrobe. I tucked in my pullover and made the puff sleeves three-quarter length. This baby blue top has pleated puff sleeves, which I love. Unfortunately, I should have sized down because it runs large.

Another thing I love to do is use a scarf as a belt. So many of my beautiful scarves from Echo are being repurposed as scarf belts! I will link a few of my favorites. Remember, scarves always elevate an outfit!

If you have a crewneck sweatshirt, you can wear a blazer over it or add a collared shirt underneath for another style. These puffy sleeves wouldn’t go into a blazer. LOL!!

Style Your Sweatshirt with Jeans

This style is a no-brainer! I don’t need to remind you that sweatshirts look great with a pair of jeans! Jeans and sweatshirts are like peanut butter and jelly!

I love wearing white jeans for spring and they look great with this pullover.

Pastels are trending for spring and this is a perfect outfit to wear whether you’re home or out running errands!

It’s March Madness and the NCAA basketball tournament is going on now.Ā  Instead of putting my money into a pool, I tend to play pool. LOL! My boys love betting on the teams with my husband.Ā  Does your family get into college basketball tournaments? This is my favorite time to watch college basketball. I come from a Big 10 family so I hope Iowa and Wisconson do well.

When in Doubt, Wear a Sweatshirt for Exercising

Perhaps we’re all more comfortable wearing sweatshirts for lounging around or exercising. You probably lived in a sweatshirt and leggings during the pandemic gs as I did.

This sweatshirt and leggings were featured in this post. This sweatshirt is currently on sale and comes in three colors. I have pink and blue one.

This scalloped edge pullover is my favorite sweatshirt to wear with jeans or when I workout. I am wearing the sweatshirt over these reversible garden snake print leggings. Both are on sale now!

  1. Love the scallop detail on the one sweatshirt! The blue sweatshirt is very pretty , love the puff sleeves and that it looks a bit dressier. It looks perfect for Spring with the white skirt. I have a white denim skirt I wear often in the Spring too. Looking fresh for the Season Robin!

I had the same rule as you until I did this challenge, then it made me change my mind. I just love how sweatshirts can be worn with anything these days. Yours’ is so pretty. I’m in love with that color and the sheen.

Yes, until we did this group collaboration my sweatshirts were worn with jeans and for exercise.
I am glad someone challenged me to style it differently!

  3. I didn’t mean to make you break a rule Robin, haha!! But it’s amazing how the “sweatshirt” looks so different when you pair it with the skirt and scarf. I just love it.

  4. I love the color and the puffed sleeves on your sweatshirt! You have styled it so many ways perfectly. And don’ts you just love the comfort and ease of care that comes with wearing a sweatshirt over a sweater? I love the washability factor.

  5. I love the puff sleeves on that sweatshirt. It’s such a pretty color too and pairs so nicely with both your white denim skirt and pants.
