Fair Isle Sweater Weather

Has anyone been watching the Crown this year? Do you notice the royals’ sweaters when they’re out in the countryside? The Fair Isle sweater, recognizable by its familiar geometric patterns in limited palettes, has long been a favorite of the royal family.

History of the Fair Isle Sweater

While the sweater was popularized in no small part due to the royals, the style’s origins stem from a community north of England. Fair Isle is an isolated island north of Scotland in the Shetland archipelago. The design began in the early 19th Century as a pattern for fishermen’s caps and sweaters.

Fair Isle sweaters are a forever winter classic season after season. This year they were trending again at the winter fashion shows.

Luckily for us, Talbots has a large selection of sweaters to choose from. This navy sweater from Talbots is perfect for winter in Park City. The sweaters seamlessly transition from the ski slopes to the streets. These sweaters are popular apres ski attire as well as Christmas sweaters. You can see many people, young and old, wearing the sweaters here in Park City.

You can wear jeans or a skirt with the sweater. Even layer it underneath a blazer. I like my sweater with white jeans, but any pair of jeans will work.
