Are You Feeling Neutral?

Ladies, are you feeling neutral these days?

Feeling Neutral

I was asked recently about why I wanted to create an event in January only for women of midlife and I thought this was a valid point for a woman attending my event and for discussing it here on my website.

We all approach midlife differently. Some of us are excited about retiring from the business world and looking forward to time spent traveling, learning a new hobby, or igniting the creative passion that laid dormant while being a nurturing mother or being a partner who financially carried the load while being a mother. (We learned very early that we sacrificed our individuality for the greater good of the family or the partnership.)

Midlife is a crossroad to many of us. Most of us have created families, a network of friends, careers and reached something of a plateau with these endeavors and finally have some time to reflect on life, our place in it, how the past years have been spent and how we want to spend the upcoming years.

Some of us embrace this new opportunity with exploring ways to be creative, the need to keep learning and focus on our own personal growth.

Some of us may regret the loss of youth and rebel against the aging process. This is what I happily refer to as a midlife crisis. Some people mistakenly believe that midlife is a time to return to adolescence and will rebel again, or try to return to the activities that were meaningful during that period. This usually backfires. I think this happens more in men as they hit midlife. I believe they have a harder time accepting the aging process. Have you noticed a large number of older men driving expensive cars or motorcycles lately? These items represent youth and power to a midlife man. They may not have had the money to purchase these expensive cars in their youth but now have the income to do so. Same could be said about men dating younger women.

Some women see fifty and beyond as a time to enjoy greater freedom from responsibility and for increased opportunity for pleasure and leisure. But many others feel anxious and depressed as they anticipate major changes at this time in their lives. Some fear they are not ready to make big moves that will challenge them emotionally and financially. They second-guess themselves—why now, what next—wondering if their need for something new is more about boredom than anything else. Instead of adventure, they worry that once they take the leap, they will have deep regrets.- Psychology Today

Feeling neutral about midlife is not bad, it’s well just feeling neutral. You aren’t happy about getting older, nor do you feel bad about getting older, you’re just in the neutral zone.

Being in the neutral zone allows you to look at new opportunities for growth as you embrace midlife. It’s a safe place to start and focus on what is important to you at the point of your life.

Maybe you have thought of starting a new business in your 50’s or want to start a nonprofit organization but need the tools to create your business. Perhaps you want to hear from other midlife businesswomen about how they run a successful business at midlife? Maybe you have had personal challenges and wonder if you’re alone as a woman of midlife. Would you like to hear other women talk about surviving their personal challenges? Do you want to look and feel your best at midlife? Maybe you are already on social media or writing a blog but want to take it to the next level. That is why we created the summit in January for women of midlife.

Influencers of Midlife Summit

The Influencers of Midlife Summit is an event designed for women who know that retirement is not even on their radar, and they are not going to stay home and watch the world go by as their mothers did at this age. They are reinventing themselves for something better and taking on life with a new energy that is making them more visible, giving them new confidence and bringing excitement into what was once considered over the hill. We are focused on helping each other grow as women, and as business owners.  We are focused on learning and sharing with one another.  We are focused on health, wellness, and self-care, in short, living our best lives.  We welcome individuals and professionals who share these interests.
Midlife is a pivotal transitional point in our lives, many of us experience a spiritual and emotional renaissance, reconnecting with interests we didn’t have time for when we were younger as well as foraging new trails into unknown adventures, which include travel, and new relationships, to name a few.

Joining us in January at the Hotel at Avalon is J.Jill, Soft Surroundings, Kendra Scott, and Athleta brands who make us look fabulous in midlife. We have fabulous women speakers who will lift you up, a dermatologist who will inform you of the latest skin care for mature skin, workshops on social media, blogging, website, and photography, a fashion show, and before and after makeovers for a few of our lucky attendees. We will have many interactive events going on during this summit as well as connecting with other women who are reinventing themselves at midlife.

The Outfit

When you think of a neutral color in fashion or design you think of tan, white and black don’t you? Now add an animal print and plaid to the list of neutrals. Fashion neutrals are colors that can go with anything, and they’re essentials for building any woman’s wardrobe. Patterns can also be neutral as well as metallics.
