Dressing Room Confession: A Layered Outfit for Winter

I don’t know where you live, but we’re knee-deep in snow here in Park City. We have had snow showers every day, and I keep adding extra layers because my Georgia skin hasn’t adapted to the frigid temperatures. Or its because my skin has thinned and needs more layers to keep me warm? I thought I would share this casual layered outfit I liked when I visited J.Jill for my dressing room confession series. This is a perfectly layered outfit for winter.

My Layered Outfit for winter

Wearing a layered outfit for winter is a no-brainer when you live in a colder climate. The cardinal rule for layering is to start with finer, thinner materials and work your way out. Make sure your layers are easy to remove. You want to ensure that you can easily remove or add a layer as needed. You don’t want to struggle with buttons or closures all the time.

This is why a cardigan is a wonderful layer for winter. When you need the extra layer of warmth, you can also remove the cardigan when you warm up.

My selection for my layered outfit was this Mixed-Textured Cardigan from J. Jill worn over the lightweight denim shirt. The cardigan has a mix of multicolored yarns to create a tweed texture. It has a longer length and relaxed fit to offer versatile styling options. I am wearing a size medium, but I wanted a size small for the cardigan, which is why it looks a bit big on me. The website says it runs true to size, but I would recommend going down a size.

The soft cotton button-down shirt is the perfect wardrobe staple on its own or layered under a sweatshirt or cardigan. It has all the hallmarks of the classic denim shirt: A-line silhouette, shirt collar, buttoned cuffs, and a shirttail hemline. I wore the shirt out, but it would look great tucked in the Washed Chino Boyfriend Jeans. I don’t tuck in long shirts because there’s too much fabric to tuck in. I’m not thin and don’t need the extra bulk around my waist.

The Washed Chino Boyfriend Pants are extremely soft and comfortable. I am wearing the light green color in the pants, but they also come in a light taupe grey. The website recommends going up a size, but I am wearing a size 10, which is my normal size.

Accessories are always a wonderful layer to any outfit. I’m wearing the Frozen Pond Filigree Pendant from J. Jill and silver drop earrings from Chico’s that are no longer available. My mules are from Steven Madden that I purchased at DSW.

So what do you think of this layered outfit for winter? Is this something you would wear? Do you prefer the reversible ruana I wore as your extra layer in this post?

Cardigans are a wonderful layer, but it depends on your body type and size. Always remember to wear what you love and feel comfortable in!
