At Home with Robin: Entertaining for Fall

It’s Fall y’all! And that means I am setting my tables in fall decor! Fall is my favorite time of the year because my weekends are filled with family, friends, and football. Here in Atlanta, football season IS A HOLIDAY SEASON!  Who knew that Fall is the beginning of the longest season of the year. Football season. Every weekend we try together with our son and his family to watch football and just be together. Thankfully this year will be no different. My son appreciates the fact we all tend to scream at the television (which does absolutely no good, but it DOES relieve football anxiety.)

I apologize: For those of you who were sent this post by accident on Monday, I sincerely apologize that it shouldn’t have gone out! I had a family health emergency on Monday and never got back to my computer to finish this post!  Most of my posts are scheduled a day ahead thinking I will complete them on schedule, but on Monday life happened.

It was horrifying to see that this post was sent before I finished it but I couldn’t stop it.

Fall is My Favorite Season

I just love this time of year when the air is crisp and pumpkin spice lattes are back at Starbucks!

For instance,  but I don’t do any baking in the summer in my ovens and I miss baking desserts and casseroles. I grew up in Minnesota ( hotdish country) and love making easy one-dish meals in the oven.  Did you know that the Hotdish is the unofficial state cuisine of Minnesota?

Here’s my favorite hotdish recipe from Minnesota.  You can use any kind of frozen vegetables but we never put cheese on our hotdish yet many recipes call for cheddar cheese.

My Fall Table

Every year I change up my tables using different fall decor from Michaels, Home Goods, Pottery Barn, and wholesale resources. I find buying faux decor in the long wrong so much more economical than purchasing pumpkins, gourds, and corn stalks at a store. I  love reusing them year after year!

My fall recipes are centered around squash and pumpkin( a squash too) recipes that will continue until spring.
Squash isn’t just a sweet, rich addition to your menu, either. It’s also loaded with vitamins, fiber, and healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

My Favorite Fall Recipes for Entertaining

My favorite fall recipes come from using as many fall vegetables as I can from now until the prices increase or they are out of season. I try to use seasonal vegetables in my cooking and entertaining because they are abundant and usually at a lower cost.

Being a farmer’s granddaughter and cooking seasonal vegetables comes from both of my grandmothers in Iowa. Frozen vegetables were never served at their table and this is still true in my home. My grandmothers had huge gardens and would can as much as they could but we ate butternut and acorn squash every week roasted or in soups.

When we think of fall recipes to cook at the Lamonte house,  pumpkin recipes lead the pack. I make a delicious pumpkin cheesecake, which is featured below!
