A Scarf that Gives Back to Living Beyond Breast Cancer/Link Up

Ladies, do you wear pink in October in honor of women who have breast cancer? I found this wonderful scarf the perfect new accessory for my restyled Tuesday outfit.

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post with Chico’s. The scarf was gifted to me from Chico’s. As always all opinions are purely my own.

October’s cooler temperature has finally arrived in Atlanta and in October I wear pink.  I was honored when Chico’s sent me this beautiful scarf that comes from their charity collection with Living Beyond Breast Cancer. Since 2004, Chico’s and its sister brands, White House Black Market and Soma, have been Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s strongest supporters, donating alongside their generous customers nearly $8 million.

LBBC’s mission to connect people with trusted breast cancer information, as well as a community of patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals provides an invaluable resource. LBBC is the answer after a doctor delivers the news of “you have breast cancer.”

Chico’s FAS, their family of brands are here to support not only these women but their family and friends.

For every Living Beyond Breast Cancer scarf sold now until the end of October, Chico’s will donate $20.00 to Living Beyond Breast Cancer.

Restyled Tuesday Outfit

The faux leather pants and my white blouse are from last year and you saw me style this outfit with a red plaid scarf for the holidays. The Kendra Scott earrings are also from last year. I love Kendra Scoot jewelry.

In January at the Influencers of Midlife Summit, we have been invited to sip and shop at the Kendra Scott’s Avalon store. 20% of all sales that evening will be going towards the National Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  We are including giving back to charities as part of our event in January.

As I was writing this post my little brother Todd who is a captain with Delta Airlines was doing his best raising money for breast cancer research. Delta has a month-long campaign to generate awareness and raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. His beautiful wife Sandra is now living with metastatic breast cancer after being cancer free for 10 years. The goal for his flight yesterday to Raleigh-Durham was to raise $100.00 and if they did he had to say goodbye to his passengers like the photo below. They raised $200.00 on the flight.

The kindness of strangers….

Compassion comes from the heart and so many women are dealing with this horrible cancer. I have been reading breast cancer survivor stories this past week, most dread October and the color pink because it brings attention to them. Every year, people, companies, and organizations around the country recognize October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The occasion brings a wave of attention to breast cancer, but many of those affected have mixed feelings about it.

One of my blogging friends, Brenda Coffee is a breast cancer survivor and has an opinion about October and everything pink.

BREAST CANCER IS NOT ABOUT “awareness,” pink ribbons, pink shopping, or ANYTHING KOMEN. October should be about SUPPORTING HARD SCIENCE that leads to PREVENTING BREAST CANCER.

I totally agree with her. As I read her blog this past weekend and learned that her little voice in her head told her something was wrong yet the mammograms showed no sign of breast cancer she is pushing for research and preventing cancer. Money should be going to prevention and research. As a woman who may someday have breast cancer, I want everyone jumping on the bandwagon for research, prevention, education, and more research money should be pouring in for metastatic breast cancer. The brands I wear support breast cancer and their money does go the highly rated charities that spend money on research and services and not on themselves.

I did research on the ratings for  Living Beyond Breast Cancer and was pleased to see they have a 4-star rating as a charity. If you’re going to make a donation to a breast cancer charity do your homework before giving money.

  1. I’m here! This is a brilliant post to raise awareness and provide support. I lost mum to cancer a couple of months ago 🙁
    Thank you for hosting xx

  2. I definitely support the cause behind wearing pink in October. It is a great cause to find a cure for women and breast cancer. That scarf is stunning, wish it wasn’t 50 bucks. I might have to get my hands on that umbrella, though. You look gorgeous. You styled the scarf beautifully! Yeay to your brother too!

Make sure you stop by Thursdays and join my Style Linkup “Thursday Moda”. I love your blog+style. Thank you. Ada. =)

  3. Love the scarf and I am for being proactive with mammograms and research. Here, I have chosen 3D imsging, which insurance doesn’t pay for, as I have fibrotic breasts.
I’m sorry to hear about your sister in law.
    I’ll link up later today,
    Jess xx

      Jess,

I too have opted for 3D because I have had tumors removed and have dense breasts.
The radiologists poo poo the 3D, but I hate getting the call I need to do more tests.
Then Brenda had negative mammograms but still had breast cancer!
We need to have better prevention and the insurance companies need to cover all mammograms.

      Hugs,
      Robin

Oh I love you Robin, great post thank you!! Like you well pointed out some of us who are battling with this disease are uncomfortable during Pink October, and as you may have noticed, these days I stay away from social medias, worrying a lot, too much. But when you wrote that one of your blogging friends like me has a little voice telling her something was wrong and that all was okay, thanks to these simple few words, I feel less worried and realise that this voice is unavoidable during Pink October…and all I can hope is that hard science finds the cure to free us all from breast cancer…
Great scarf by the way! Merci merci!!!

      My dear friend Diana,

Thank you for stopping by and sharing your journey with breast cancer.
I always worry what my friends and family who have breast cancer think when I write about breast cancer in October. I even asked my brother what he thought if I should mention that Sandra has metastatic breast cancer.
I do not have breast cancer but I want to respect and honor the women who do.
I appreciate you stopping by today my friend!

      câlins,
      Robin

      Jodie,

We are all affected by breast cancer. I’ve lost friends to breast cancer and I know women who are survivors. 1 in 8 will be diagnosed with breast cancer and we need to focus on research and prevention.

      Hugs,
      Robin

  5. These are such pretty options from Chico’s. You make an excellent point on breast cancer study being about hard science, not a particular foundation. Blessings.

      Kim,

Thank you. Yes money should be spent on research and prevention and I think the 4 star rated charities like the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Living Beyond Breast Cancer, and Stand Up 2 Cancer, should be the ones we donate to.

      Hugs,
      Robin

  6. Robin, this is such a beautiful scarf! And I love that Chico’s is donating $20 with every scarf purchase. We have the whole consignment shop decorated in pink for the month of October with lots of fundraising events going on in our town. It is so nice to see an entire community come together to support a cause.

      Shelbee,
I am so happy to work with brands that have a big heart.
Every month should be breast cancer awareness month but I’m happy October is dedicated to breast cancer.
I know wearing pink is hard on some women who are dealing with breast cancer but I think it’s a very kind gesture (like lighting a candle) to honor these women and their families.

      Hugs,
      Robin

  7. Robin, I am sorry to hear that your sister in law now has metastatic breast cancer, after 10 years I’m sure it was the last thing she expected. I recently flew Delta and I was so happy to see them collecting money on my flights for breast cancer research and I especially loved the pink dresses some of the flight attendants were wearing. Your scarf is beautiful and I love the way you styled it!

      Kellyann,

Thank you very much for your kind words. Yes we were all shocked when Sandra received the news. I always thought 5 years you could put breast cancer behind you but you can’t.
I love Delta for supporting breast cancer research and honoring their employees who have breast cancer in their families or is a survivor.
My brother Todd always wears pink in October. Wasn’t it lovely that his passengers were so willing to donate $200.00 on his flight.
      Kindness is everywhere.

      Hugs,
      Robin
