Travel Over 50 – Weekend Getaway to Coral Gables
It’s the weekend! Do you ever go on weekend getaways? Join me today on my latest trip to Coral Gables!
Ladies, can you believe I packed black and white fashion for my recent trip to Coral Gables? Florida is not known for black & white style but in Coral Gables, it’s what everyone wears!
This is a sponsored post in collaboration with Eva Trends.
Even our hotel had very modern decor with black and white as the primary colors used throughout the hotel. Pops of color were found in the art and some of the furniture in this chic, sexy, and exotic hotel.
Hotel Colonnade-Marriott Autograph Collection
We stayed at another Marriott Autograph Collection because it was located in the heart of Coral Gables. The hotel is located on Miracle Mile in the heart of Coral Gables. Great shops and restaurants surrounded the hotel.
Our Room- 2 levels
This was a pleasant surprise to find our room had 2 levels and 2 bathrooms! I decided to take the loft bathroom and the cute lounge area became my photoshoot area for my outfits since I wasn’t about to take selfies in front of our friends! I am very comfortable finding secret places to take pictures.
The loft area was my secret spot to take pictures but I must tell you as an interior designer that I found it humorous that the hotel installed grab bars in the shower/tub area for the safety of the disabled. Seriously! If they can climb the spiral staircase they don’t need to install grab bars in the bathroom upstairs! I know the hotel was being compliant for code regulations but I found it funny.
What I packed for Coral Gables in my carryon suitcase. (It’s all black & white to me)
Packing for a trip where everything must fit in my carryon suitcase requires me to coordinate all the clothes I packed.
I took only one pair of pants and a striped skirt to Coral Gables and built my outfits around those 2 pieces for every day. One swimsuit and a long poncho made the trip as well since it was mid 80’s and I knew I build be sitting by the pool and at the beach club with my dear friend, Susy.
I wore this outfit on the plane and when we went out in search of Cubano coffee shops on Miracle Mile. (The gold cuff sets off the TSA screener so I packed it up on the return flight)
Paper Bag Linen Pants styled 2 Ways
This boho chic look is perfect for Coral Gables and Miami. I wore it every morning when my husband and I went out for breakfast at the neighborhood breakfast coffee shops.
At night I switched the top to this gingham front tie (tucked in the pants) for a simple dinner outfit.
We ate at the hotel’s restaurant, House the first night and enjoyed eating outside. Casual dining with a Cajun influence.
One skirt- 2ways
When we ate at Morton’s Steakhouse next to the hotel I wore this hot pink top with my striped skirt and turquoise jewelry. Why eat at a chain restaurant when you visit cities? At Morton’s, you trust the quality and service.
This was my favorite outfit of the entire trip. I wore the dress shirt from Eva Trends as a coat over my striped skirt. Big bold prints go well with stripes.
I have to tell you about this fabulous Italian restaurant in the heart of Coral Gables! We ate at Cafe Abbracci and I highly recommend this exceptional Italian restaurant owned by Nino Pernetti. These men in the photo below are his lieutenants (very Italian) and have been with him since he opened the restaurant in 1989. I met 2 of them when we dined with our dear friends on our visit.
We had a lovely dinner at our friend’s home in Coral Gables. They downsized to a condo after years owning a large home on a canal with their boat. They are world travelers and didn’t want the upkeep of a large home anymore. Now they just close up the condo and go where their hearts take them. As we get older sometimes our lifestyles indicate whether or not we downsize to a home that is less upkeep.
I wore the shirt dress over the paper bag linen pants as a casual style. (This was my outfit for my flight home too.) We sat on the terrace for cocktails and nibbles while enjoying great conversation and laughs with our friends of 25 years. Even though we only see each other every year or so, we feel such a deep affection for them. Next time we are planning a trip to Scotland with them and staying in a castle!

Easy Centerpiece Idea
Susy decided to put roses underneath with goblets with votive candles on top as a centerpiece idea. You know how I love different ways to create centerpieces!
I forgot to snap a photo of her completed dinner table filled with her silver and gorgeous china. She has a home filled with fabulous silver pieces and I am so sorry I forgot to take a photo of her table set.
Poolside Attire
I brought my flyaway swimsuit my large packable straw visor, and a top I seldom wear but it’s now relegated to being my beach cover-up.
How fun are these palm leaf earrings and my coral necklace? When in Coral Gables we must wear coral!
Palm leaf centerpieces were everywhere in the hotel. Another very simple yet elegant table centerpiece!
I spent a lovely day with my friend Susy at her beach club, the Grand Bay Club, near the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne. Beautiful view but the ocean is still very cold for my tastes.

Oh my goodness … how I love this post! I was born in Miami, and raised in Coral Gables. I shopped Miracle Mile every weekend, rode my bike to Matheson Hammock Park, and hung out at the Biltmore Hotel in my later years (you can rent a cabana by the pool for the day!). I was a lifeguard at Venetian Pool and the Coral Gables Country Club. Did you get to visit any of those places? I did NOT appreciate what I had at the time! Now, many years later, I’ve raised my own family in Texas, and I love it here, but Coral Gables is such a special place. My brother and his wife still live there. Cafe Abbracci is a their go-to Italian! You’ve nailed Coral Gables style too … casual elegance. 🙂
Camille,
I am so glad this post brought you joy!
My husband may have played at the Coral Gables CC but I didn’t golf on this trip.
Cafe Abbracci is our friends favorite restaurant and we absolutely loved the food!
Thank you for stopping by today!
