How to Wear Pearls this Holiday Season

The holiday party season is upon us and I bet you will be attending parties this time of year. Why does everyone wait until December to host a party?

I will be attending a black-tie holiday party and hosting holiday parties at our home. One thing I will be wearing a lot this holiday season is my lovely pearls. Pearls go with everything and elevate your outfit to the next level. Pearls have the power to bring out the beauty and make me look elegant and very special.

Pearls made a big comeback this year for the spring and fall runways in 2019 when many Haute Couture designers opted to accessorize with pearls and pearl jewelry trends.

I wore multiple strands of pearls in the spring when I wrote about the classic tweed jacket. I love wearing layers of pearls that this fall they reappeared on a blog post about the perfect black top.

Pearls are also synonymous with 20th-century icons and royalty like Jackie Kennedy, Coco Chanel, Elizabeth Taylor, and Princess Diana. Pretty good company to keep, n’est ce pas?

How to wear Pearls for Your Black Tie Holiday Style

Do you have a black-tie event in December? Perhaps a wedding or formal holiday party to attend? Weddings are very popular during December and tend to be more formal every year our country club has a black-tie holiday party that we attend and I always wear something formal. This year I will be wearing this bronze evening gown that I wore for my niece’s wedding in September. Because of the popularity of the shades of brown for fall I selected this multi-strand necklace from Farra Jewelry. My off the shoulder draped collar works beautifully with these pearls.

If you are attending a formal holiday wedding and want to wear pearls, keep it simple with a single strand of pearls or a pearl choker.  You could even wear a beautiful pair of pearl drop earrings.  But you must make sure you don’t go over the top with pieces that will cause you stealing the limelight from the bride on her big day.

Simple Black Holiday Style 

I love wearing comfortable and stylish clothes when I entertain at home. Because I keep my outfit simple and all black, I love to wear pearls. Last year I wore a little black dress with my pearls for our holiday party and wrote about it here.

The best way to show off your festive holiday pearls is by making sure the rest of your outfit is simple. For example, I am wearing an all-black outfit for my holiday party that makes the pearls stand out.

You can pick out your outfit in any festive holiday color which will also look wonderful with pearls. Or, you can keep things simple by wearing off white or black. This allows your outfit to act as a blank canvas, which will really highlight your pearls. Last year I wore a winter white suit with my pearls.

Harper’s Bazaar lists “statement pearls” as an “instant update,” with a word of caution that “Not all pearls are created equal. This season, baroque shapes, unique settings and major volume offer a whimsical take on the demure accoutrement.” I couldn’t agree more!
