Weekend Getaway : Hotel at Avalon

My husband and I had been doing weekend getaways ever since the children were little. These weekend trips back in the day were also tied to my husband’s business, but I looked forward to spending time alone with him. We would travel every year to Palm Beach or Maui and I relished sleeping in, reading a book, and just doing what I want to do while he was off at meetings. My mother was a great substitute for me and my children also enjoyed spending time with their grandmother who tucked them in at night and told them bedtime stories of when she was a little girl. We still do weekend getaways and recently fell in love with the Hotel at Avalon outside of Atlanta in Alpharetta.

The hotel is part of the Autograph Collection owned by the Marriott Corporation. I wrote about staying in Asheville at the Grand Bohemian Hotel (part of the Autograph Collection) when we went to visit the Biltmore. We prefer to stay in the Autograph Collection hotels because they are not your typical Marriott property. They are boutique hotels that are upscale and run independently. Each hotel is unique with heartfelt design focused on attention to detail.

About Avalon

Avalon is a mixed use development of office, retail, entertainment and housing. This is a walkable community which is a wonderful option for couples who want to live close to  shopping and work.

I love all the shopping and the top notch restaurants at Avalon. You can take in a movie or even walk around with a cocktail in your hand while strolling the avenues . Avalon is privately owned so open bottle is not illegal here.

Experience Hotel at Avalon

The hotel was designed by local Atlanta architectural and hospitality design companies that reflected the principles of Southern hospitality, evoking tranquility with a gray, cream, and buttery yellow palette. It is simply wonderful and as an interior designer, I was smiling as I entered the hotel with my design team ( we were there for a meeting). I appreciate excellence in design and this hotel did not disappoint me.

When you enter the hotel you are greeted by 2 porch swings on both sides in front of living walls filled with various plants. All we needed was a jar of sweet tea to sip while we watched people entering the hotel.

Then you enter the main lobby and it looks like a tastefully designed living room that invites you to sit for a spell.

I love the magnolia blossoms, (another nod to the south) cascading down as wall partitions in the lobby area.

Horse art is very popular in the south. Isn’t this a marvelous wall sculpture?

Bookcase nooks are abundant in the well designed lobby area.

We managed to interrupt a meeting between 2 of the managers who knew my daughter Lisa, for a photo opportunity .

In the lobby is a massive bar area with a more industrial southern look. Wooden beams adorn the ceiling as well as whiskey barrels used as bar art.

The hotel’s main restaurant, South City Kitchen is part of a very popular Atlanta based group of restaurants under the same name know for the beloved tradition of elevated Southern cuisine and genuine hospitality.

I love the thoughtful design of the restaurant. It matches the quality of the food!

The bedrooms are modern and light, carrying on the grey, cream, and buttery yellow color scheme.

There is a fitness center and an outdoor pool located above the restaurant. If you go back to the photo of the exterior of the hotel, you will see the pool area above the restaurant.

Pool Terrace

The hotel also is a convention center boosting under 60,000 square feet of meeting and event areas. I really love the the enormous pendant lighting don’t you?

We wanted to take a group photo in an area of the hotel that was quiet before our meeting and thought the Hagood Reception area was perfect and again I love the lighting!

Well my friends I hope you enjoyed this little tour of the Hotel at Avalon. I highly recommend this hotel for your next weekend getaway!

If you do come to Atlanta, let me know and I will join you. We can sip sweet tea on the swing or enjoy the elegant lobby area!

As for now, my angels and I have a client to meet!

Happy weekend y’all!!

Hugs,
