This is 65: What Would My Younger Self Think of Me Now?

Hair Biology sponsors this post, but these are my words and thoughts about turning 65.

As I turn 65 this month (or today) I am looking back to my younger years, sometimes I feel amazed at just how my life has turned out. Between the obstacles, the challenges, and the redirection of life paths that took place, I can still say that I am proud to be where I am.

So I asked myself this question for my 65th birthday.

What Would My Younger Self Think of Me Now?

Looking Back at My Younger Self

Younger Self at 25

When I was in high school, I wanted to be a flight attendant, but I had to take a quick detour to become a mother first. I got pregnant in college, married, had a child, and divorced by the time I was 23.  However, at the age of 24 and as a single mother, I became a flight attendant.

I could have settled for less, but I didn’t. My determined younger self was so self-confident that she was my driving force. She believed in herself. I made many mistakes at 25, but I learned from them.

Younger Self at 45

At 45 years old, I was a busy mother of 4 children, volunteering for charities, and being a great homemaker. As much as I enjoyed being a busy mother, a part of me wanted more in my life. I wanted to do something for me as long as it didn’t interfere with my daily family life. So, with the support of my husband and family, I went go back to college to finish up my interior design degree. I became an interior designer at 45, and it fulfilled my creative side. Oh, did I say I am a Sagittarius?

The Sagittaruis Personality

I have never really studied the astrological signs of the zodiac, but I was curious to know if I fit the personality traits of a Sagittarius. The answer is yes! So all of you who are Sagittarians know what I am talking about!
I learned from researching my zodiac sign that Sagittarius are incredible storytellers, entertainers, and creatives.

For those of you who don’t know the personality traits of a Sagittarius, here’s a quick recap of our positive traits. I prefer not to mention our bad traits like being extremely outspoken and honest extroverts! Which sounds wonderful, but sometimes “ Honesty isn’t always the best policy.”

Sagittarians are optimistic, lovers of freedom, hilarious, fair-minded, honest, and intellectual. They are spontaneous and fun, usually with many friends, and perhaps the zodiac’s best conversationalists (maybe tied with Gemini). They tend to inspire the people around them to live their best lives, like a cross between Oprah and Santa Claus. Did I mention we are very, very funny?

After learning about the Sagittarius personality traits made complete sense why I am who I am. Sagittarius loves to travel, and I was a flight attendant. Since I’m an interior designer and a midlife influencer, we are also creatives. I was happy to learn that Sagittarians are storytellers. My husband asked me years ago why I wanted to be a blogger, and I told him that I love to write. So Sagittarian.LOL!

What Would My Younger Self Think of Me Now?

Everything I have faced has shaped me into the empowering woman that I am today. My younger self would be so proud of herself. She believed in herself and kept moving forward.

She would be amazed that she was still following her dreams, goals, and ambitions at 65. My younger self would learn that she is still relevant and vibrant at 65 as she was at 25. The phrase “60 is the new 40” is really true. We’re so active and looking for ways to reinvent ourselves after midlife. I have told many people that being a blogger and influencer is hard work, but I find it rewarding. My husband recently asked me when I was planning to retire, and I told him this is what retirement looks like to me!

Influencers of Midlife

I love mentoring midlife women who are writers, creatives, and bloggers, which is why at the age of 62, I created a midlife women’s conference, Influencers of Midlife Summit.

Influencers of Midlife is an organization dedicated to helping women grow personally and professionally well into their “mid-life” years. With a focus on fashion, travel, careers after midlife, health, and wellness, we have created a community among women 40+ who are interested in reinvesting in themselves and taking action in life with newfound energy and purpose. We believe in living our best lives now!

Sadly, COVID shut down my conference in 2020, but I’m thinking of creating smaller regional meetups in 2022 or 2023. We had 150 women signed up for the conference in 2020. There’s a need for midlife women to find a community that supports them as entrepreneurs, bloggers, and creatives. I have to see if the time is right this year or 2023.

Age is Just a Number

Last year at the age of 64 I went skiing on my birthday. It had been 33 years since I had last put on skis which was frightening and exciting at the same time. My husband decided at the age of 65 to buy a home in Park City, Utah, to ski again. He is an excellent skier and went on ski trips with our friends while I stayed home raising the children. This really was the safest thing to do as a mother of four. I had no desire to ski when the children were little. My fear of breaking a limb made the decision to stop skiing quite easy.

But here I am now at 65  back up on the slopes at Deer Valley. I am taking ski lessons because I’m still very rusty and need more confidence in skiing. So many people over 60 are amazing athletes in Park City that I look like a novice. You will see gray-haired people bicycling up mountains or jogging in the summer. While in the winter, they are skiing the double black diamond slopes. Not me; I’m still loving the green-marked slopes!

My younger self has so much to look forward to, doesn’t she! I think that she has been with me the entire time, whispering in my ear, “You can do anything if you set your mind to it!”

Working with Brands Who Celebrate Women over 50

I have written blogs or posted on Instagram for the last six years. I have been blessed with brands who wanted to work with me to promote their products to my audiences. One of my favorite relationships has been with Hair Biology. I have been a partner with Hair Biology for over a year and a half. I have used both the Silver & Glowing Collection and the Soft & Hydrated Collection.

I have written about my hair thinning and using Hair Biology products formulated for my hair. But, ladies, you know our hair changes after 50, so why shouldn’t our hair products change with us?

What happens To Our Hair After 50

Hair Biology believes it’s important to Show Yur Age, and created products designed to work with our unique hair biology. I have been using the Silver & Glowing Collection for a year now.

We can have a great hair day every day if we use the right products to help combat the challenges of aging hair. Hair Biology has a line for every one of us!

Wouldn’t you love some Hair Biology products under your tree this year?

Thank you for allowing me to share my journey to 65 with you.

Happy holidays!
