New Year’s Resolutions and Dressing in Style in 2025
Happy New Year! I hope you’re looking forward to 2025! Every year, I sit down and think about what I did well the previous year and what I need to work on. What I learned about myself in 2024 is how I created my New Year’s resolutions for 2025.
2024 was a great teaching year for me. I learned what I was capable of doing and what I was comfortable letting go of. As I have aged, I have learned to prioritize what makes me happy and not always say “Yes” to everything. For example, I am comfortable skiing green runs at Deer Valley; I know that I can ski more challenging runs, but I prefer to stay in my comfort zone. Green is perfectly fine for this 68-year-old lady.
It’s a New Year, New You!
New Year’s Resolutions for 2025
I have made a list of things I am going to do this year, and I bet you can make a shortlist for yourself. I find that if I have too many goals, I never accomplish any of them! Keep it simple and short!
Keep on walking and exercising
I walked so much last year because I was aware that 10,000 steps a day is optimal for our health. I walk every day and hope to get 10,000 steps. Many times, I only get 8,000 steps, but that’s still an important milestone. We do so much walking and hiking in Park City that I tend to forget to do weight-bearing exercises, which are so good for us! This year, I am going to get back into lifting weights and doing more yoga. I haven’t been good at sticking to weekly exercising, and it shows. I used to go to the gym 3 times a week pre-COVID. 2025 needs to be the year that I make exercise a priority.

Practice Self Compassion
I think 2025 is the perfect time to practice self-compassion and self-love as a New Year’s resolution. There are so many things I don’t like about myself or my body that I want to improve this year. Yet, many times, I get mad at myself or feel like I have failed myself for not doing a better job.
According to Good Housekeeping, recent research shows that practicing self-compassion slowed people’s heart rate and sweating, two symptoms our bodies produce when under chronic stress. So, take some time each day to focus on something you love about yourself.
Instead of mercilessly judging and criticizing yourself for various inadequacies or shortcomings, self-compassion means you are kind and understanding when confronted with personal failings – after all, whoever said you were supposed to be perfect?
Taking Better Care of My Skin and Hair
Since 2020, I have noticed that my hair has been thin. My skin has become drier, and wrinkles have increased all over my body. Park City has really dried out my skin. I am now making a conscious effort to hydrate my skin and use products for my hair and skin to see if I can reverse the damage I have caused over the years. I have tried nutraceuticals and haircare products that haven’t produced the results I have been hoping for. Please share in the comments if you have had success with a hair treatment.

Learn a New Skill or Hobby
Nothing is more invigorating than learning a new skill as we age. Plus, it keeps our minds sharp! I took up skiing again at 64, and I am thinking of a new skill or hobby for 2025.
Keeping up with current technology or learning a new skill keeps us young at heart. When I hear my peers say that they know enough already and don’t want to learn anything new, they are missing out on some wonderful opportunities. We are never too old to learn and grow.
You don’t have to take giant leaps. In 2025, slowly find something you are passionate about and follow your heart.

Keep Dressing in Style even at home
The connection between our outfits and our state of mind is receiving renewed attention as style publications have dubbed a trend called “dopamine dressing,” which involves dressing in a way that brings you joy and boosts your mood. I will continue to make the effort to dress up even if I am at home. It can still be causal, but adding jewelry can elevate an outfit. I love dressing up, even if it’s for myself. Putting on something nice from my closet this year is key to lifting my spirits.
The Outfit
I went shopping at Chico’s during their Semi-Annual Sale and came home with lots of fun tops to wear in January. I absolutely love this tie-dye high-low tunic, which I am wearing with Chico’s Juliet Ponte trim-detail ankle pants and the blue denim Journee Collection Vianna Mule, which you have seen before. My No Droop™ Embellished Tulip Drop Earrings are new from Chico’s.

Happy New Year! I love the thought of practicing more self compassion and the idea of slightly elevating the causal style most of is are embracing right now. 🙂
Happy New Year Robin! Lots of good goals! I’m starting small as I usually give up if I try to tackle too much lol. Eating healthy and exercise are high on my list this year. But I may try to add some other goals as the year progresses!
Happy New Year Robin! I love this post’s emphasis on self-compassion! That is one of my resolutions for sure! I tend to beat myself up when I don’t accomplish everything I set out to do, and it’s counterproductive. Thank you for sharing!
Happy 2021, Robin! You and your home are looking fabulous as usual! I love the commitment to self-compassion; I think most women can use some more of that… And I wholeheartedly agree about learning new things keeping us sharp, not to mention young at heart! Curtis and I took up ballroom dance a few years ago, and there is always something new to learn, and much laughing at ourselves, to boot! Love to all…
Happy New Year Robin! I too will work on dressing up more when at home! Wishes you the very best xx
