How to Wear a Puffer Vest After 50

Puffer vests are trending for fall and winter again this year but are they something you wear as a woman over 50? The answer is yes.

What is a puffer vest? Well, it’s a fabulous and functional extra layer that you can add on or take off as you please; perfect for awkward in-between-season times when the weather doesn’t know what it’s doing. A puffer vest is also compact enough to roll up and pack into a bag, making it an ideal traveling companion. I’d rather throw on a puffer vest than deal with a heavy coat any day of the week–well, up until January here in Atlanta.

How to Wear a Puffer Vest Two Ways

Depending on the occasion, you could choose to style your puffer vest with a polo shirt, shirt, sweater, or long-sleeved top. Because of its versatility, you can wear almost anything under a padded vest. In cooler climates, a sweater is a smart layering option for underneath your vest, whereas if you want to keep it lightweight, opt for cotton or linen underlayers. When layered up, a puffer vest can look chic if you wear it the right way.

I decided to share two different ways to wear this puffer jacket from J.Jill’s fall collection for easy casual styles that you can wear now or later. The vest is water-repellent, and the washable down-filled vest features a horizontally quilted body and vertically quilted side panels with contrast textures that are both beautiful and slimming. The longer length provides cozy coverage while the down-filling, stand collar with corduroy facing and fleece-lined zippered pockets add even more warmth on cool days. I love the long length of this vest! The vest also comes in black and navy. For sizing purposes, I am wearing a medium.

I am wearing high-rise straight-leg jeans and a striped cotton hoodie, just like the mannequin in the window. Sometimes I am inspired to wear an outfit precisely as the models and mannequins wear.
