How to Host the Book Club Movie Night with the Girls/ Link Up
Hello, my friends! Have you ever hosted a movie night at your home instead of going out to a movie theater? I just hosted a wonderful evening at my home on Sunday night with my girlfriends because I was sent a lovely movie night viewing gift from Paramount Pictures in celebration of the Digital/DVD/Blu-ray release of BOOK CLUB today!
Do you remember when I wrote about seeing the Book Club movie with my friends in June? Not all of my girlfriends had seen the movie so I invited a few of them over to see the movie in our home theater.
Book Club Movie
I invited my girlfriends over for a dinner before viewing the movie because I enjoy my friendships with women my age and we always have wonderful conversations at the table. You really can’t talk to each other during a movie, can you?
The movie clearly represents where I am at this point in my life and so many women question their sexuality and attractiveness after 50. I loved that the characters portrayed by legendary actresses Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen, BOOK CLUB follows four lifelong friends whose lives are turned upside down to hilarious ends when their book club attempts to shake things up by tackling the infamous “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
The book was what caused the conversation to invite my friends over to dinner in the first place. Many did not want to be seen watching a movie in a public theater that referenced the “Fifty Shades of Grey” because they had not read the book. They didn’t know what to expect from a movie based on a book of a male dominatrix.
I read all 3 books but found it interesting why my friends thought they would be going to “Hell in a handbasket” if they read the book or all 3 books.
My 84-year-old mother and her friends saw 3 times and loved it! Only one of my mother’s friend said they talked too much about sex.
The Dinner
We started the evening with cocktails and wine. I was given the most wonderful wine glasses in honor of the movie (they were always drinking wine in the movie.)
Since it was Sunday night, it was also pasta night in our house.
I made a fresh Vegetable Fettuccine Alfredo and Goat cheese, Spinach, and Sun dried-tomato stuffed pork chops and served a simple green salad before the movie. I know the photo doesn’t look appetizing but it really is delicious! I was drying out the fettuccine and I had browned the pork chops before I finished them off in the oven. I tweaked the recipe so it’s not exactly like Giada’s. I play around with recipes and I added more sundried tomatoes and cheese with less spinach. However, the cheese just oozed out of the pork chops!
Here are the food styled photos of my dinner courtesy of Food Network.
Whenever I entertain I make sure there are flowers everywhere and I served on plastic plates to make for easy clean up so that we could enjoy the movie without being concerned about the dishes.
The Restyled Tuesday Outfit
This outfit comes from the 2017 purchases I made last year. The animal print poncho was purchased in the spring and the pants in the fall. Animal print is still trending for 2018 as well as statement necklaces. Always invest in a style that you can wear 2-4 years before you donate it.
Thank you to Paramount Pictures for the wonderful Book Club movie kit! It was a huge hit!
Have you seen the movie yet?
What did you think?
Will you be watching the movie in the privacy of your own home?
I would love to know!

Your movie theater is so grand, and I love what you served for dinner. I used to make fresh pasta all the time, but am trying to get rid of my extra 10 pounds I brought home from Italy… Gelato and pasta were my daily must haves! xoxox, Brenda
Brenda,
I love pasta and serve it every week but I know it’s carbs (good carbs followed by heart healthy red wine!!)
My fresh pasta is not as good as the imported Italian pasta but it’s made from the heart.
I hardly think you need to lose any weight after the lovely Audrey Hepburn pose you shared on Instagram my friend!

Robin

This is such a great idea. We always like watching movies at home better because you can pause them for breaks.
I added in our camo outfits because we’ve worn these pieces for the last 3 years!!

Thank you Shelbee!
Crazy week and I’m now slowing down to enjoy the weekend and respond to you!
I hope you do see the movie because it really does relate to my age group. We question our sexuality and wanting to feel vibrant and attractive as we get older.
It’s hilarious!
Hugs,
Robin
Eventually, I will get a chance to view the movie. Things just got super crazy for me around here…heading back to work outside of the home after 8 years of being a stay at home mom! Yikes! Wish me luck. Thanks for linking up with me last week….this post will be a featured favorite tomorrow on my newest #SpreadTheKindness Link Up!
