How To Give Your Bathroom a Spa-Inspired Makeover

Self-care is and always will be a necessary part of your daily routine. Therefore, it’s important to find time to relax, starting your day with some yoga, taking a meditating walk, or reading your favorite book. If you’re looking to create a relaxing space in your home where you can start and end your day, giving your bathroom a spa-inspired makeover is a chic and savvy upgrade.

How to give your bathroom a spa-inspired makeover

I designed a wellness spa for the 2019 Atlanta Homes and Lifestyle Holiday Showhouse. I made many decisions about what was going into this bathroom.

As an interior designer, I help my clients come us with a design plan to create their spa.

Pick a Theme for your bathroom makeover.

Start your design inspiration by thinking of your favorite place. Is it a tropical island or a cozy mountain resort? Or maybe you have a spa you like to frequent? Please think of the elements of these destinations that draw you to them, and consider what qualities about them help you relax. For a serene and calm bathroom, consider paint or tile colors that help you relax. Light blues, grays, and tans are popular for luxury-inspired bathrooms. Don’t be afraid to add fun pops of color as well. If you have a flower you particularly like, or you want to create more of a tropical vibe, you could add an accent wall. Elements inspired by nature, like the ocean, forest, and woods, are all popular spa bathroom themes.

Plan Out the Project

Once you’ve chosen a design direction, plan out a timeline for the project to be completed. If you’re making structural changes like adding a steam shower or jacuzzi tub, plan for the project to take longer. Updating your bathroom is both an investment in your home and yourself. For funding for a major renovation like a bathroom remodel, consider using the equity in your home to pay for the renovations and improvements. This can be done with a fixed-rate home equity line of credit. This is a good option if you don’t know how much the project will cost. If you don’t own your home, you can still upgrade your bathroom in a rental, be sure to check with your landlord before making any significant changes. If you cannot due to the terms of your lease, stick solely to decorative updates. When doing a complete renovation, you’ll need to find reliable contractors in your area and bathroom and home stores that carry the items you want.

Consider Sink & Shower Options for your bathroom makeover

Some common elements of a luxury bathroom include a jacuzzi tub, a larger shower or a steam shower, a sauna, a vanity, or a double sink. When picking these items out, consider both functionalities in addition to appearance. Having a bathroom that flows well and is safe to use is essential. As you age, owning a shower with a bench or grab bars is a smart idea and makes your pampering time easier and stress-free.

Consider marble or stone for your shower to create a more elevated look. Think of the view of your bathroom and if you want to add windows for natural light. This may also determine where you want to place the bathtub. A popular feature of spa-inspired showers is a glass or doorless walk-in shower. Remember that this space is for you to relax and where you focus on your health and wellness. Add elements and designs that work for you and your daily routine.

Choose Lighting & Decor

A vital component of a luxury bathroom is the lighting. The proper lighting will calm your mood and enhance relaxation. If you don’t have natural lighting through a window, you might want to add brightness in certain areas, like over the sink. Recess lighting is popular, so you can manually adjust the lighting every time you use your new space. As you decorate your bathroom, consider adding organizational elements to store the items you use every day. An organized spot with your toiletries and essentials will make your morning smoother. For extra comfort, consider a rain shower. Plants, candles, and plush towels are items you can add to decorate and enhance the cozy vibes. This can include adding bathroom hooks with plush robes to help create a relaxing atmosphere.

If you’re looking for an upgrade in your home that’ll benefit your daily routine and stress levels, consider upgrading your bathroom to a relaxing oasis. By adding the above elements, you can create a space you feel comfortable in and can retreat to when you need time to rejuvenate and practice self-care! Practicing self-care is essential no matter your age, and a spa-inspired bathroom is a great way to add some TLC to your morning routine.

I hope you enjoyed these tips on creating a spa-inspired makeover for your bathroom!

Until next time!
