Dressing Room Confession: Marla Wynne for Chico’s
Ladies, it’s been a while since I posted a dressing room confession post but I have to tell you about the new Marla Wynne Collection for Chico’s. It’s is worth a trip to the store!
It’s so refreshing to see stores who’s demographics are midlife women collaborating with fashion designers who ALSO happens to be a midlife woman! When my favorite stylist Lieve from my local Chico’s store asked me to stop by and check out Marla Wynne’s collection for Chico’s I was happy to see this collection.
Marla Wynne’s Story
Marla was not always a fashion designer. She was a successful television executive in Hollywood during the ’90s and doing quite well for herself. Later, she moved to Paris, where she was an executive at a French film company and taught classes at the Sorbonne until Hollywood called her back in 2003.
A double whammy occurred in 2007. The recession where she lost a ton of money from her investments and the writer’s strike where she knew she could not earn the same income again.
During her years in Paris, Marla had befriended several executives at the luxury brand LVMH, including some from Dior. They explained to her the fashion business, which, as the owner of a closetful of designer clothes, she found fascinating. So when financial ruin loomed, “I went out and bought a sewing machine. Just that simple,” says Marla. “By the time the writer’s strike was over, I had a company.”- Source
She realized that fashion seemed to be missing two things: Real women sizes and trendy options for women over 40. All the companies were focused on targeting the Millenials and not focused on women who have the largest discretionary income- US! She wanted to create casual, comfortable, elegant and age-appropriate lifestyle clothing in flexible mix and match designs in delicious fabrics that would go everywhere a midlife woman’s busy life was taking her.
“There was Eileen Fisher, which was very pricey. Nobody was really making clothes to address the changing body and lifestyle of a Boomer. We may be dinosaurs, but we still need clothes. And, by the way, we have more money than anybody else on the planet.” – Marla Wynne
Today Marla is a mainstay on HSN with her MarlaWynne collection and now she has a collection at Chico’s!
I want to remind you that this collection may not be in your local Chico’s. You should call ahead to see the collection is available for you to try on.
My Favorite Marla Wynne for Chico’s
Dolman Sleeve Top and Pants
This dolman sleeve top and crepe pull-on ankle pants are part of her collection at Chico’s. I love the dolman sleeve top and will restyle it as a jacket later. Since I have very strong broad shoulders this dolman top doesn’t look droopy on me.
This statement necklace and the wide cuff found their way home with me as well as the dolman top! How gorgeous is this tiger print leather tote!
The dolman sleeve top comes in 3 colors; olive-gray, black, and canvas.

Elegant Floral Print Poncho
Need something for a date night? This outfit is perfect for a special occasion. This poncho is very chic and flows so nicely when you move. Perfect for a date night or a special occasion where you need to be smartly dressed.
I wore the floral print poncho over her scoop-neck tank top and her crepe ankle pants. Chico’s has this fabulous bracelet watch which I paired with another beaded bracelet. I selected these earrings to complete the look.
The poncho comes in two colors; black and neutral and canyon rose sand neutral. I am wearing the black print but styled it with blue jewelry.
I have a lot of beautiful ponchos from Chico’s.
See the poncho I wore on my Rhine River Cruise. See it here.
Here’s another beautiful poncho from Chico’s was on this post. Read more here.

Kimono Sweater Cardigan
Sweater cardigans are popular again and I love this kimono sweater cardigan! This is a great sweater to have in your wardrobe for an added layer. For this look, I went monochromatic. I am wearing the sweater with the scoop neck tank over the crepe ankle pants. I added a pop of color with this fun oversized animal print scarf.
Did you know that Chico’s has reading sunglasses in all styles and colors? Now I can change out my sunglasses and not worry about walking into things. I have to wear prescription sunglasses so I appreciate companies that make readers in my prescription!

Black Dolman Sleeve top and Animal Print
Yes, I bought a second dolman sleeve shirt during my visit to Chico’s last week. I couldn’t resist the animal print ankle pants to add to my spring wardrobe. I already had the animal print scarf bracelet and the animal print bow tie hoops so of course, I needed the pants!
How to Style this Dolman Sleeve Top
Dolman sleeves and dropped shoulders are hard to wear when you have sloping shoulders (no structure). It’s important you know what looks good on you. A woman in the store with very rounded shoulders loved what I was wearing but she looked lost in the top all buttoned up until I told her to wear it as a jacket or put a cami underneath with a few buttons open. Dolman sleeves are perfect for a busty woman like me.
Always try on clothes you may find questionable.
Here’s an option to style this dolman sleeve shirt. I am wearing it like a jacket. You can also leave it half buttoned with a tank top exposed.
Oh dear, I think I need to get a bigger bag! I hope you check out the Marla Wynne Collection for Chico’s and let me know what you think!
