Christmas Morning Tradition
Ladies, do you have a special Christmas morning tradition? We started having a special Christmas celebration from the moment we woke up until we sat down for dinner to celebrate our oldest daughter Lisa’s birthday. Because Lisa’s birthday falls on Christmas, we make the entire day a special day.
When the children were little, I changed our Christmas day to a birthday celebration for Lisa. We would spend Christmas Eve with my husband’s loving and delightful Italian family. We would feast on pizzas, calzones, scungilli salad, clams oreganata, shrimp scampi, Italian cookies, my tiramisu, and cheesecake. Then we waddled back home with full bellies and hearts around 10:00 and open up all the Christmas presents because the 25th was set aside for Lisa’s birthday.
When the children were older and in high school, we went to the current Christmas morning tradition of opening all the presents while drinking mimosas before our Christmas morning brunch only to celebrate Lisa’s birthday in the evening serving her favourite menu.
I love getting up early because we still leave Santa gifts in the Christmas stockings for our adult children. (Children should always believe in Santa no matter their age. Sammy still does, which makes it fun in our home.) I turn on all the Christmas lights in the house and light the fireplaces up while filling the Christmas stockings with fun little gifts.
My brunch menu is relatively simple. I serve breakfast casseroles, fruit salad, and breakfast meats. A lot of the recipes can be done the day before and some can be frozen. I am all about not stressing over the holidays even if I’m entertaining!
Before the age of Pinterest and the Food Network, I relied on my large library of cookbooks. I still use recipes from my cookbooks but it is so easy to search for them on the internet.
My tables are set before the children arrive, or in Sammy’s case, get up.
I love having a Santa list to see who made the “Nice List”. Did you make Santa’s nice list this year?
Christmas Morning Brunch
We have always had mimosas to drink on Christmas morning when we open up our Christmas presents.
Everyone gets up by 9:00 and wanders into the living room with a champagne flute in tow. Lisa and Sammy prefer non-alcoholic mimosas so I have 2 options in the morning. Little children will enjoy this non-alcoholic mimosa!
All these recipes are also on my Pinterest Christmas Entertaining Board.

Classic Mimosa
A mimosa cocktail is composed of one part champagne and one part chilled citrus juice, usually orange juice unless otherwise specified. It is traditionally served in a tall champagne flute at brunch.
- 1 bottle of Dry chilled Sparkling Wine or Brut Champagne
- 3 cups Chilled orange juice or your favorite juice
- Fill 8 champagne flutes 1/2 full with chilled sparkling wine. Top with orange juice.

Fragrant panettone is the perfect choice for this sweet, French toast-inspired casserole. Don’t have a loaf of this Italian holiday bread on hand? Try rich, buttery brioche instead.

Hello Robin!
Back in business! Happy New Year to you. I hope your Christmas and daughter’s bday were wonderful. We have a little one in the family now, my nephew Aedan, who is 1, so between him and my neice who is 8, it was so fun talking about Santa and opening gifts. I love your tradition and place settings are beautiful. My sis in law and I have a tradition of making Christmas Eve cocktails.
