Are You Covering Your Face for Protection?
Hello, my friends! I hope you’re staying safe and positive as we continue to stay at home during the coronavirus pandemic. Are you covering your face for protection against the coronavirus when you are shopping?
Well, it seems we’re now being serious about covering our faces like an extra layer of protection. We still need to practice social distancing when we go out to hunt for food and supplies as we shelter in place. I started to wear a scarf three weeks ago when I knew I was the designated shopper for my family.
This is a sponsored post with Soft Surroundings, however, all opinions are my own.
Covering Your Face for Protection
With the rapid rise of the coronavirus across the U.S., we are finally hearing from the CDC, Dr. Fauci, and doctors urging us to wear fabric face masks in public when leaving the house for essential activities. In New York, Governor Cuomo has mandated all New Yorkers to wear a mask in public.
There’s growing evidence that the virus can be transmitted by people sick or who may never feel the effects of the virus inside them. Additionally, there’s new evidence that a person can spread coronavirus just by speaking, as tiny droplets spew out on the breath.
But if everyone wears a mask, experts say, such transmissions are much less likely to occur.
The N95 surgical masks are now being used by the frontlines against this terrible pandemic which means we can’t purchase them for ourselves now. Because I want to cover my face when I go out in public, I am now wearing homemade masks, scarves, and bandanas for face protection.
Will Wearing a Scarf or Bandana Protect your Face?
Yes, as long as it’s covering your nose and mouth. The most important factor when wearing a scarf or bandana for face protection is that the fabric is thick, not thin.
I also find wearing a scarf to cover my face when I’m shopping now as a normal accessory. Once I wear a scarf it goes straight into the laundry to be washed.
Homemade Masks
Face masks are now being made by many fashion houses like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Burberry. You can buy your homemade face masks online or if you have dear friends like I do they will make you a face mask. I have been wearing scarves as face masks to shop for my weekly groceries but then I get a text message from a dear friend who texted me and said, “It wasn’t acceptable that her friends didn’t have appropriate protective masks to wear to the store so she was going to make me 3 fashionable face masks.”
I like that we can machine wash the homemade face masks.
The Shopping Outfit
Even while staying at home I am still working with brands who have closed their stores but are still available to you when you shop online. One of my favorite brands is Soft Surroundings and I am doing everything to promote their company with my followers. I don’t want us to forget that this virus has affected the way we shop and only the financially strong will survive this recession.
Are you living in pajamas and loungewear these days? Soft Surroundings has a wonderful selection for staying at home and feeling comfortable.

I prefer to get dressed when I go shopping. (Can you believe that grocery shopping is now our public activity?) Just putting effort into getting dressed to shop makes me feel better!
Are you noticing more people covering their faces when out in public? I think it’s our newest accessory!

Stay safe my friends!
Hi Robin
So glad to be able to walk the pups and get out on the deck. The sun helps but I haven’t been able to get dry needling so I am struggling.
I do wear a mask, and we have been getting walmart drive up groceries- ordered online and they bring it to the trunk.
Looking very stylish! Love the scarf too
thanks for linking!

And you look lovely for the grocery run. I haven’t been in one for 5 weeks now. But, it has always been my least favorite thing to do anyways. Went for a drive yesterday and many signs posted by govt officials “wear masks” up and down the strips by the ocean. Soft Surroundings has pretty lounge wear
Loving your cute spring outfit, Robin. I have not yet put a mask on face, but I also haven’t left my house in 5 weeks! My husband does all the errand running these days! Thanks for sharing and linking up.

Hi Robin, Its interesting how the only social activity we have is going to the grocery store these days. I miss those happier days of dressing up for photos and then heading out to dinner with my husband. For now the store clerks are the only people I dress for and unfortunately we’re all in masks. Some how I’m feeling that the end is close.
My Best,
Nancy
Nancy,
Yes I think the end is getting close but I live in Georgia with an idiot for governor.
First to open are nail salons, hair salons, and gyms on Friday!
Yes he thinks we can keep practicing social distancing at these places!
Hugs,
Robin
I only go outside for my daily walk and always wear a mask. Many do not but I think it’s absolutely necessary!
I see a lot of people walking in my neighborhood without face masks too.
I would think in NJ the governor would request face protection in crowded areas.
I am glad you are taking better care of yourself Phyllis!

I was thinking of using a scarf for protection when I can go out again! But for now I stay at home for a few weeks more! Stay safe!
Can you believe how long we’ve been staying at home Nancy?
I go out twice a week to get groceries and wear a face mask.
Thank goodness I can enjoy my backyard and walk my dog.
Stay safe!
Robin- A scarf is so easy to wear and use as protection. And stylish! We can still be stylish under quarantine.
Yes, it is!
I see many face masks as well as thick scarves used fdor protection.
Stay safe and healthy!
