A Hairstyle for Thinning Hair
Ladies, do you have thinning hair as you’ve gotten older? I have always had long hair but this summer I noticed how thin it was and I decided it was time for a new hairstyle.
I began to notice my hair thinning right when I was going through menopause. My hair was losing volume and it was thining out everywhere! My hair seemed to come out in the shower when washing and my hairbrush soon filled up as loose hairs are brushed away. I was plainly shocked seeing how thin my hair had become.
I started taking nutraceuticals for my hair and saw some regrowth but the ends were still very thin. Read more about my review of taking Kera Health supplements in this article Hair Loss After 50.
As much as I love my long hair it was time to face the reality that it was thinning on the ends. When thin hair grows super long, it has a tendency to look extra fine and stringy towards the ends.
I decided to have a discussion with my stylist about what haircut looks good on women who have thin hair. She was very open to giving me a haircut more suited for my thinning hair.
What Hairstyles Look Good for Thinning Hair?
The Pixie cut, Lob, or Bob haircuts are great for women with thin hair. Every time I googled “hairstyles for women over 50” up popped Helen Mirren and Judy Dench on my search.
I wasn’t ready to go to a Pixie cut so I went with the classic Bob. Baby steps…..

My stylist, Nickie from Van Michael Salon told me that my thin hair would look better with a chin-length bob and bangs. Because my hair was thinning more at the top in front she made my bangs longer. A bob haircut creates volume that I was lacking with my long hair.
More Bob Haircuts for thinning hair
Having this hairstyle requires more time styling it to get it to look this way when I walk out the door. I have to blow dry, add a thickening treatment, and spend about 30 minutes just to get my hair looking great.
What Products do I use on my Thinning Hair?
Nickie also told me to use good hair products formulated for thinning hair and these products from Hair Biology are formulated for thinning hair. She said using a thickening treatment creates fuller hair which is SO IMPORTANT when you’re dealing with thinning hair. I have been using Hair Biology products since May and truly believe is using their products. I have been using the Volumizing Shampoo, Volumizing Conditioner, and the Thickening Treatment since June.
What is Thickening Treatment?
One important distinction is that there is a difference between a hair thickening treatment and a hair regrowth product or hair replacement treatment as a hair thickening treatment will not halt or reverse hair loss or hair thinning. Instead, hair thickening treatments can help to improve the appearance of thinning hair and increase the volume of hair.
Hair thickening products, while effective, will not regrow lost hair, but they can offer a natural, subtle improvement in the volume and thickness of your hair.
I also use the Argan Oil Taming Serum to strengthened and control my dry frizzy hair.

The new style is amazing, so flattering. I’m the other way round as I only grew my hair in my fifties because I have fine hair which is so difficult to keep tidy but an updo solves the problem. I do allow it to dry naturally most of the time which helps, but I’m not anxious to return to the long styling sessions!

Robin,
Your new hairstyle is so flattering, looks great! My hair has gotten more fine as I get older, noticed a difference between 40 and 50. I have thought about a bob and may do it sometime down the line. It looks wonderful and I have heard good things about the hair products

Robin, you look amazing!! Such a hotty with this new look! Makes you look chic and sassy- love it!
Hi, Robin – I loved your hair before, but I guess we have to embrace change. Your experience is interesting. I have found Viviscal to be helpful. And I have gotten rid of the bangs and gotten a bob even though I have naturally wavy hair. My hair now seems full as a shoulder-length bob and even has more volume from the shorter length, but it actually needs some kind of layers to allow the waves. Schwartzkopf volumizing products for mature hair works quite well. Thanks for sharing, Angie – http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com
