Cruise Style over 60: What I Wore on my Cruise

What I Wore on My Cruise: Linen, Travel Clothes & A Little Greek Souvenir

Packing for a cruise is always a balancing act. You want clothes that are comfortable enough for daytime exploring, polished enough for dinner, and versatile enough to work when the weather changes. On this cruise, I was especially glad I packed plenty of lightweight pieces because the temperatures started out warm.

Linen Was My Warm-Weather Go-To

Wearing:

Since the beginning of the cruise was warm, I packed lots of linen. Linen is one of my favorite travel fabrics because it feels cool and relaxed while still looking put together.

Wearing:

Many of my linen outfits came from Lintico and Planet by Lauren G. They were perfect for those sunny days when I wanted to feel comfortable but still look stylish. I mixed the linen pieces with shorts and simple accessories, creating outfits that were easy to wear while walking around ports or enjoying time on the ship.

This outfit got the most compliments, but I forgot to shoot it on the cruise!

The weather was cooler in Dubrovnik and Itea, and I switched to jeans and a sweater. Thank goodness I packed a rain jacket from my daughter-in-law because it was chilly visiting Dubrovnik and the ruins!

Free Assembly Women’s and Women’s Plus Cinched Utility Jacket. Can you believe it’s from Walmart? So well made!

Dressing Up for Dinner

Wearing:

Evenings were my opportunity to dress up a little more. For dinner and other occasions when I wanted a more polished look, I turned to the Chico’s Travelers Collection.

Wearing:

The Travelers pieces are especially useful for cruising because they are comfortable, easy to coordinate, and travel beautifully. They gave me that pulled-together evening look without requiring me to pack a separate wardrobe for every night.

What I Wore for Exercise and Relaxing

Of course, a cruise wardrobe isn’t complete without comfortable exercise and relaxation clothes.

Wearing:

I got my exercise clothes and bedtime pieces from Soma, while my leisure and travel pieces came from Zenergy by Chico’s. I reached for these outfits when I wanted something easy and comfortable—whether I was exercising, traveling around the ship, or simply taking it easy.

You can wear this Women’s Printed Half-Zip Polo in Black with the pants.

Or pair it with this Women’s Luxe Pointelle Sweater in White.

Having a few dependable casual outfits made getting dressed much simpler. I didn’t have to think too hard about what to wear; I could just grab a comfortable piece and go.

Swimsuits for Swimming and Exploring

Of course, I needed swimsuits for the cruise, too!

I wore Miraclesuit while we were in Montenegro. When you’re traveling, it’s nice to have a swimsuit that keeps you comfortable and confident while you enjoy a beautiful destination.

I also packed a Lascana swimsuit, which I wore for swimming behind the ship. There is something special about getting in the water at sea and enjoying the experience, rather than just looking at the water from the deck.

Both swimsuits had their place in my cruise wardrobe, and I’m glad I packed them. After all, a cruise isn’t just about what you wear to dinner or while exploring the ports. Sometimes the best outfits are the ones you wear to get in the water!

A Zebra-Print Goodbye

One of my favorite cruise memories involved something I packed but didn’t bring home.

Wearing:

I had a zebra-print top that I decided to give to my Greek friend and tour guide, Irene. It seemed fitting to let the top have a new life after traveling with me, and giving it to Irene made it a little souvenir of our time together.

Sometimes the best part of a travel wardrobe isn’t what you bring home—it’s the memories attached to the clothes you leave behind.

My Cruise-Packing Formula

Looking back, my wardrobe worked well because I packed for several different kinds of days: linen for warm weather, Travelers pieces for evenings, Soma for exercise, and Zenergy by Chico’s for comfortable travel and leisure.

For me, the ideal cruise wardrobe is less about having a huge number of outfits and more about bringing pieces that can do several jobs. Comfortable, lightweight, easy to mix and match, and polished when needed—that combination makes getting dressed on vacation much more enjoyable.

And, of course, there should always be room in the suitcase for a little bit of zebra print—and perhaps a gift for a new friend along the way.
