50 Shades of Periwinkle | Ageless Style
When one of the ladies from our Ageless Style group suggested we wear periwinkle in honor of Pantone’s color of the year 2022, Very Peri, I knew this would be a difficult task. This color comes in so many shades of purple and blue that you can call it lavender or violet and still not be wrong.
What Color is Periwinkle?
The exact color for periwinkle isn’t easy to define because there are many shades of periwinkle. You can say this about any color really. This color is more of a bluish purple. Yet I’ve seen light periwinkles and even grey periwinkle in paint colors.
Very Peri is Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2022. In fact, Very Peri is in fact a brand new color created by Pantone for the first time ever in the history of its Colour of the Year forecasts!
My Periwinkle Style
For this collaboration, I actually purchased what I thought would be a periwinkle cardigan sweater. When I saw it I knew it wasn’t periwinkle. It was a light purple cardigan. Thank goodness I had this beautiful scarf in my closet. The purple cardigan will be featured later. It really is beautiful but it’s not periwinkle.
I purchased this scarf from Talbots a couple of years ago because of the periwinkle color. It’s such an elegant scarf that looks good worn so many ways. Here’s a great article on how to tie a scarf.
3 Ways to Wear a Scarf
I actually draped my scarf and didn’t tie it for this post. Sometimes I prefer a soft draped scarf over one that is tied.
- Softly draped shawl style around your neck is such an elegant look. If you have a brooch this would look lovely with a large scarf.
- Or worn on one shoulder. Sometimes I will use a wide belt over the scarf and my blouse. (It’s my favorite way to wear a big scarf.)
- Draped around your neck.
What Color to wear with Periwinkle
Your safest bet is to wear neutral colors like black, white, or gray with Periwinkle. However, yellow and navy look wonderful with this cool color too. As you can see I’m wearing a white shirt and my faux leather black pants for an effortless look. Since I’m in Park City my closet doesn’t have the options to wear with periwinkle.
This periwinkle top from J.Jill is about three years old and I wore it in this post.
Do you have a periwinkle color in your closet?

Robin ~ Hello I am 50ish
I have such trouble wearing scarves because I am large chested and they just add to my bulk. But this scarf looks light enough that I could maybe pull it off. You’ve styled it in such pretty ways. Maybe I need to try wearing my scarves wrapped or tied so that they don’t necessarily lay across my chest.
What a beautiful top in that last picture. Lovely accessories paired with it. You wear very peri very well.
I am large chested too!
I never thought of scarves as something I shouldn’t wear because of my ample chest.
I love large scarves because they drape so nicely.
I love that scarf so much! How I wish it were from this year! I think my sweater was definitely more in the blue family. I should have worn the other dress which was probably very close to Very Peri. Ah, well, I love my outfit so there you have it!

I think if you love your outfit, no one is going to notice if it’s periwinkle or not.
It was a hard color to showcase because stores call everything periwinkle when it’s not.
I purchased a sweater that I absolutely love but it wasn’t periwinkle at all.
I just love how you had a plan b with this scarf Robin. It’s truly beautiful and would seriously go with almost everything in my closet.

Thank goodness I brought the scarf with me to Park City!
It was the easiest thing to pack if I couldn’t find any periwinkle clothes, which I didn’t!
I love to wear large scarves because they are so versatile!
Beautiful scarf! I was surprised that when I looked it up I saw two sets of periwinkles, one more purple than blue since I always thought periwinkle was more in the blue family. So your scarf and that JJill top are right on point. It is such a pretty color and works all seasons.

That’s why I called my post 50 shades of periwinkle.
Almost all colors can be warm or cool colors just by adding red or blue to them.
Very Peri is a blue periwinkle which was hard to find in clothes this year but luckily my scarf was the closest to Pantone’s color of the year!
Robin,
Your scarf is gorgeous and you have styled it beautifully!
Rosemary
Thank you, Rosemary!
The scarf is beautiful, and definitely periwinkle as well as your top in the last picture. I had a hard time finding anything new in this shade as well.
Yes, I found it hard to shop for periwinkle to wear for this collaboration!
Robin, your scarf is beautiful! I love how you styled it. The color is beautiful on you!
xo,
Kellyann
Thank you so much Kellyann!
That scarf is beautiful!
Thank you, Joanne!
