4 Healthy Habits for the New Year

With January in full swing, it’s vital to start this year off right. Creating healthy habits to follow throughout the year can make 2022 feel like the best year yet. So today, I’m sharing some ways to stay happy and healthy this year.

Enjoy Healthy Foods

Eating healthy doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice deliciousness! You may have your staple dishes that you know like the back of your hand, but after a while, it feels like you’re in a constant cycle of making the same old things week after week. Adding in some new recipes can keep cooking exciting! If you’re feeling uninspired by your pantry, don’t be afraid to ask for dish ideas from the people around you. You can even take a look through some of the recipes I’ve loved to help spark some ideas.

Kale salad with dried cranberry, almonds and apple

Finding new recipes can introduce you to new superfoods to help your energy, nutrition, and all-around wellbeing. For example, mixing berries into your seasonal salads can provide a great dose of fiber, Vitamin C, and antioxidants. Mixing it up with your greens and including ones like kale or spinach as an excellent source of fiber can also make your salads pop while allowing you to play around with textures and flavors within your dish.

Attend your Annual Appointments

Feeling your best comes from taking care of your overall health. So don’t let the winter blues keep you from visiting your doctors for all the annual appointments you have. Seeing your primary care doctor about the basics of your health can help create a routine that will work for you. This can include things like a specific diet or fitness routine that you can add to your healthy habits for 2022.

It is also important to visit your specialists for changes in eyes and vision. Cataracts and glaucoma are the primary cause of vision loss in women over 50, so it’s essential to visit your eye doctor annually to monitor any changes. Having yearly appointments can help you maintain your vision and provide you with an updated prescription to buy women’s eyeglasses when your prescription changes. Having an up-to-date set of glasses can have you seeing the world through fresh eyes. As a bonus, looking through several options for fun frames can enhance your vision and your style and confidence.

Stay Active in Every Season

It is important to create a routine to help you stay active throughout the year. Starting the year off in the wintertime can make it hard to want to set goals in the first place, let alone keep them. Whether your winters are chilly and snowy or you live somewhere nice and warm all year round, having a routine that is adaptable to the changing seasons can help keep your fitness goals. Find exercises that you can do both at home and outside to keep any daily goals attainable regardless of the weather.

Making plans to stay active with others can help hold you accountable for doing the activity. Linking up with a buddy to take a walk every day is a great way to spend your time both on fitness and friendship. Joining a group for a class or just as a way to socialize can have you looking forward to every step of your fitness journey!

Add some Self-Care to your Daily Routine

Self-care has been a buzzword for a while now, especially during the last few years of being inside most days. You can identify self-care differently based on what you need to feel your best. For some, that means spending time at night on their skincare routine, and for others, it means unplugging from the internet for a few hours a day and curling up with a good book instead. Whatever brings you peace and calmness is your self-care.

Incorporating self-care into your daily routine is something that can help set you up for a great year of feeling like you and being your best self. So take the time to figure out what you can do for yourself. Also, ask your friends and family what they do for self-care; those conversations may give you some great ideas on how to spend some time focusing on you and your needs.

Try to create healthy habits in 2022 that can last for the years to come!
