Why Do we wear Red for Christmas?

For Christmas, we can see as much red as we don’t have the chance to see throughout the year. Why red, the color of passion, is the color of Christmas?

This deep hue symbolizes the blood of Jesus Christ, whose birth the holiday celebrates. It is also associated with Santa Claus and his distinctive outfit. In general, in other popular holiday themes, red is often used to represent love, courage, and romance.

Red is also a color of royalty; if we think of the bishop’s and kings’ capes, they are also red, as red suggests authority. In time the significance of this color changed. Still, it’s said that because of the red cape of St. Nicolae, the protector of all children, comes this color, a tradition that has been consecrated in the legend of Santa Claus.

Maybe the idea of wearing red is amplified by the stylists, who encourage us to wear this color and keep the traditions. In December, they sell more red clothes than at any other time. In many ways, it’ll be difficult to change this view, and red will remain the symbolic color of Christmas for a very long time.

My Red Outfit for Christmas

I fell in love with this Lurex Ikat Jacquard Ruffle Blouse from Chico’s. I knew it would be my perfect red for Christmas. The details of this sheer, shimmery top make it perfect for celebrating the holidays, like the ikat rose jacquard print, the sleeve ruffles, and the slight lurex shine. This sheer, lightweight blouse is best worn with a tank underneath. The ruffled sleeves are so beautiful.
