Walking in Confidence with Chico’s

“Always walk like you deserve to be where you are.”

This past week has been an amazingly tough one emotionally for me my friends and if I didn’t believe in who I am or what I am doing I would have been crushed. Do you ever feel overwhelmed and lack self-confidence when you are faced with a hardship?

Disclosure: This post contains clothes that were gifted to me from Chico’s. As always all opinions are purely my own.

Walk in Confidence

There are times in our lives that we may be judged for how we look, criticized for an action or viewpoint we may take, change careers, change our relationship status or reinvent ourselves when we truly need to change the direction we are headed in. There are also days when someone justs want you to feel lousy or afraid.  How do you respond to negativity? How do you handle criticism? How do you handle being defeated? Do you pull up your chin and walk forward with confidence knowing that you can handle whatever life throws at you with a smile or do you lower your head and say, “OMG!”

As I have written before about the half-full glass or half empty glass mentality, how strongly we believe in ourselves and our strong sense of self frees us from self-doubt. Yes, we can doubt what we’re doing at times in our lives because someone makes you feel bad about your decisions, but if you feel strongly about what you’re doing you will also find the confidence to overcome rejection.

Self-esteem or self-confidence is also strongly linked to happiness, with higher levels of self-esteem predicting higher levels of happiness.

I found a wonderful article on building self-confidence and wanted to share a part of it with you. I highly recommend you read more articles from Mind Tools if you need to learn how you can boost your self-confidence. How you see yourself in your journey will determine if you will overcome obstacles or let the obstacles become a roadblock in moving forward.

The Difference Between Confident Behavior or Low self-Confidence

Confident Behavior Behavior Associated With low Self-Confidence
Doing what you believe to be right, even if others mock or criticize you for it. Governing your behavior based on what other people think.
Being willing to take risks and go the extra mile to achieve better things. Staying in your comfort zone, fearing failure, and so avoid taking risks.
Admitting your mistakes, and learning from them. Working hard to cover up mistakes and hoping that you can fix the problem before anyone notices.
Waiting for others to congratulate you on your accomplishments. Extolling your own virtues as often as possible to as many people as possible.
Accepting compliments graciously. “Thanks, I really worked hard on that project. I’m pleased you recognize my efforts.” Dismissing compliments offhandedly. “Oh that project was nothing really, anyone could have done it.”

Dress for Confidence

Do you need a little boost in self-confidence? Try wearing an outfit that makes you feel good. Would you believe that something as simple as how you dress could affect your attitude and self-confidence? The truth is, how people dress is related in some way to how they feel.

There was a discussion I was having on my Instagram feed this weekend with a blogger friend of mine about depression and how some women don’t care how they look in public. Wearing a nice outfit won’t cure depression but if you make the effort to wear a nice outfit you also make the effort to take a shower and fix your hair and face.

“According to a recent news release, one study has shown that women who are depressed or sad are more likely to wear baggy tops, jeans, and a sweatshirt or jumper. Women who are happy or positive are more likely to wear a favorite dress, jewelry, and jeans. These clothing choices seem to mean that women who are feeling down put less effort into what they’re wearing, and women who are in a good mood tend to try and look nicer to match their mood” (Rheyanne Weaver).

When you dress well it lifts your mood and your confidence. Dressing well can affect the way you come across to others. Dressing in clean and tidy clothes that fit well and show off personality is one of the top ways to increase confidence and self-esteem.

Remember to use these 5 rules when selecting an outfit to boost your confidence.

  1. Wear Clothes that fit your body shape.
  2. Wear Clothes that you feel comfortable in.
  3. If you don’t love it, don’t buy it!
  4. Dress for the occasion.
  5. Find Styles that speak to you as a midlife woman.

The outfit and the jewelry  I selected from Chico’s latest collection is very empowering for me after a week of battling negative energy thrown my way. I selected a very neutral outfit that was based on leopard print from the pants I am wearing to the accessories. I find animal prints to be very empowering to a woman. Feline and powerful make for a wonderful confidence booster.

Who doesn’t love a great statement necklace? This leopard print bib necklace is reversible!! Double love!!

The leopard print chandelier earrings are also reversible!! Chico’s really has fabulous jewelry!

I am wearing the Juliet leopard print ankle pants that now have the So Slimming® technology you love—and it’s better than ever, with a new and improved front panel that has even more comfort and stretch, and better tummy control. I have on the Ponte Button detail top that is so laidback and chic and is a perfect work-to-weekend top. The relaxed fit with a high-low hemline keeps you comfy, while the side button details add a touch of polish. I’ve even added Leopard print bangle set to finish off my outfit. The watch and the clutch were from last fall. The bronze mules are over 5 years old and I’m so glad mules are making a comeback! Best shoe style ever created! Pay attention to the animal print this yera ladies, it’s still a hot fashion trend!

      Thank you Hilda!

I am always surprised when someone makes me lose my faith and confidence in who I am and what I’m trying to do.
Still walking with my head up!

      Hugs always,
      Robin

  2. Love this outfit and appreciate the whole post. Thank you. I have recently purchased a pair of faded leopard stretch jeans and will be featuring them on my Monday post in a couple weeks. They are the “new neutral” and offer so many mix/match possibilities. I do need to look for your necklace though.

      Libby,

Yes leopard is the new neutral and it has been trending for awhile now.
I think it’s going to be a classic style for the next few years.
Women can’t get enough of it!

      Hugs,
      Robin

  3. Beautiful look my friend, I saw those same pants on the site and was tempted! Love this classic look and the necklace pulls it all together! I certainly have times where I doubt myself or feel like i can’t handle my illness… I can lose confidence. But I just do my best, accept that there will be down days, and try and live life as best as I can. so true about dressing, when i was very sick, I was all in black, depicting how i felt at the time.
