Fitness Goals for Women over 50 | J.Jill FIT
The new year is here, and many people are making their New Year’s resolutions or promising to improve the coming year. Some of the most common resolutions often pertain to health, whether to exercise more often, eat healthier, or get more sleep. However, sometimes all it takes is a buddy system or perhaps a new workout outfit to help you reach your fitness goals as a woman over 50. I bought a couple of new outfits from J. Jill’s FIT collection to keep me motivated to reach my fitness goals this year.

Exercise can enhance your energy levels, keep you at a healthy weight, and even possibly reduce some of the symptoms associated with aging. Exercise can be good for your brain, emotional state, and body. Whether you’re looking to maintain your current weight or to feel more energetic and healthy overall, there are numerous ways to stay active when you’re over 50.
The best advice I can give you is to find something you like to do for exercise. Your intention is important; that intention should be to do something that makes you feel good and have more energy. There are so many options – I love my Les Mills Body Pump, Pilates, and Yoga. I also love getting out on my tandem bike with Sammy and riding for 5 miles on a beautiful day in Park City. or just taking a walk or hiking in the mountains. I’ve added skiing to my fitness routine, but that will not last forever. Do something that makes you feel good, and enjoy it!
Be active every day, and focus on moving more and sitting less by keeping track of your daily steps. I use my Apple watch to remind me to stand after sitting at the computer, which helps me. I have written about incorporating some form of resistance training twice weekly to protect your bone health and maintain your strength. Read Here

Whether we are talking about nutrition, staying fit, losing weight, mental health, social wellness, or anything related to a human’s overall health and wellness, I have found one thing to be indisputably true – we are all completely unique. Each and every one of us is singularly unique due to a combination of our genetics and our environment (epigenetics). Because of this, we all age in different ways and have different health and wellness needs past the age of 50. Therefore general health advice can’t apply to everyone… Figure out what works for you. An exercise plan, diet, or creative outlet may be doing wonders for your friend, partner, or cousin. But you are not them, and what works for them may not work for you. Listen to your body, educate yourself, and figure out what’s best for you.
J.Jill FIT Collection
When I need a little workout motivation, I buy new clothes to give me a reason to hit the gym or get my cardio in. I was really pleased to see this new FIT collection when I visited my local J.Jill store for my Dressing Room Confession this month. There are so many wonderful pieces, but I selected two outfits that work for me. The navy Fit Soft Funnel-Neck Top with the Fit On-The-Go Side-Striped Wide-Leg Pants are perfect for running errands, taking walks, or just lounging in. Designed to take you from workouts to weekends and travel, this outfit is a perfect addition to your closet. I tried on a medium in both the top and bottoms, but I think I could also wear a size small. However, I never do!
This Fit Cotton-Blend Ultimate-Fleece Sweatshirt Tunic and Fit High-Rise Performance Leggings are perfect for my workouts in the gym. I wear a sweatshirt over a sleeveless top in cold weather. However, in Park City, I have kept the sweatshirt on for the entire workout. I will have to get the Fit Performance Long-Sleeve Tee in white to wear with the leggings.
