Essential Gardening Tools For Beginners
I love wearing flowers as much as I love surrounding myself with plants in my gardens and in my home. Did you know the benefits of having plants in your home? Plants are known to boost your moods, productivity, concentration, and creativity as well as reduce stress and fatigue. They clean indoor air by absorbing toxins, increasing humidity, and producing oxygen. As an interior designer, I tell my clients to add some”green” to add life to a room. And taking care of plants can be very therapeutic if you know how to do it properly with essential gardening tools.
If you’ve been bringing home indoor plants this summer that catch your eye or intrigue you, and soon after find yourself wondering why they don’t seem to thrive for long in your home, there’s a good chance you aren’t providing the right environment and care.
Plant parenting and gardening involve much more than picking out plants that complement your interior design preferences; each plant has unique sunlight, watering, and soil conditions. While it’s important to find out what your plants need, you will also need a few tools to provide optimal care.
As a result, you won’t be able to care for your indoor plants without the following essential seasonal gardening tools.
Essential Gardening Tools
A Potting Shovel
Unless you want to pot and repot your plants with your hands and make a huge mess, it’s a great idea to invest in a potting shovel. This tool is also essential for mixing different potting mixes to create an ideal environment for specific plants.
Self-Watering Pots
For plants that demand daily watering, you might find it challenging to keep up the routine. Beyond that, it can also be difficult to ensure plants get enough water and not too much, as both issues can be harmful to your plants.
Self-watering pots are the best solution for plant parents that can’t keep up with watering routines. They are also the best solution to care for plants when you are away for an extended period.
Plant Nutrition
The right plant nutrition and fertilizer products are essential to keep your plants thriving. Without extra nutrients, you will notice your plants stop growing. Most plants will stay dormant until they are fertilized and fed additional nutrients.
Water Meters
While water meters are not crucial, they do make it a lot easier to provide the proper soil moisture. These tools are incredibly cheap as well. The simple design measures soil moisture to let you know when your plant needs water.
Pruning Sheers
A common mistake that most new plant parents make is pruning plants with regular kitchen or craft scissors. Not only are regular scissors not sharp enough, but they also aren’t durable enough. When using regular scissors, you will inflict more harm on plants which can stunt growth.
A Watering Can And A Mister
Providing the perfect amount of water for each plant is essential, and this won’t be possible without a small watering can. Moreover, you must also take care to mist plant leaves; simply watering soil is not enough for thriving plants. A regular spray bottle is ideal for misting leaves.
Potting Mix
You might think the soil your plant comes with is enough. But you must top up the soil as watering compounds and shrinks soil. In addition, you must also repot your plants at regular intervals to prevent root rot and provide additional room to grow. Not repotting the plants will stunt growth and lead to the slow death of some types of plants.
Once you have gathered the essentials, spend some time uncovering the specific care needs of each plant in your home.
Are you already a master of indoor gardening or a beginner? I hope these tips help you because having house plants are SO GOOD FOR YOU!
Until next time!
