Williamsburg at Christmas

We’ve all heard about the beautiful and unique decorations and Christmas spirit in historic Williamsburg, VA, during the holiday season. I visited Williamsburg last summer with Sammy, but this time, I joined three other women on a girls’ birthday trip. We were all invited by the tourism board to revisit it at Christmas.

Williamsburg at Christmas

We spent a fun-filled few days staying in a lovely cottage at the beautiful Kingsmill Resort, which is situated on the James River. Our cottage was a four-bedroom four bath, which is perfect for a family gathering or, in our case, a girl’s trip.
After getting settled in, we went to dinner at Cochon on 2nd. It was delicious and intimate as we anticipated our time together. I had travelled with Tonya and Rhoda before when we went to Saint Augustine. However, this was the first time I met Alison, and she was such a delightful woman. I love travelling with women who share this social media platform as bloggers.
We ended that first evening at Busch Garden’s Christmas Town, taking in the sparkling lights and music at this well-loved theme park.

Day 1 at Williamsburg

Our first full day started at Bake the Burg, where we fueled up with coffee and fresh baked goods. Then, we went on to the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg, where we took a tour and saw the stunning tree that was prominent in the museum. The museum is chock full of Williamsburg history.
Next on our list was lunch at The Blue Talon Bistro, a delightful French bistro where Sammy and I had breakfast last summer. We all loved our dishes!
I definitely did not come prepared for the balmy 32-degree weather, so I had to stop at a store to buy a scarf and gloves. It was still a beautiful day; it was just my poor packing!
After lunch, we were all looking forward to the Christmas Decorations tour of Colonial Williamsburg. Seeing the wonderful Christmas decorations up close was such a treat. They are made of natural materials and are especially lovely to experience in person.
Seeing Williamsburg at Christmas was truly spectacular and a must for everyone! The Community Christmas tree lighting was especially memorable. The festivities took place in front of the Courthouse steps, with a special reading of The Night Before Christmas, classic Christmas carols sung, and the finale lighting of the 40-foot spruce with 7,500 twinkling lights on Market Square.
Our dinner that evening was at Giuseppe’s, which we all agreed was outstanding Italian cuisine.

Day 2 at Williamsburg

Our final full day started with brunch at the Culture Cafe, a fun place for food lovers. There was so much to look at while having brunch there, and lots of whimsical things kept us smiling.
We headed to the Williamsburg Christmas Market, where we browsed the handmade Christmas items in 40 vendor chalets.
There was even a photo op with Santa, which we all took advantage of.
Next, we had a little retail therapy at Monkee’s of Williamsburg, where we all tried something in this beautiful boutique. I found a lot of cute things on sale!
For more retail therapy, don’t miss Brick & Vine, which has an assortment of charming Christmas and home decor to choose from.
Both are located in Merchant’s Square, with over 40 shops and restaurants right in the historic district of Williamsburg.
That afternoon, we even had time for a wine tasting at Williamsburg Tasting Room and Wine Bar, which was a great way to wind down the day.
As a special treat for Rhoda, the birthday girl, we all had dinner at The Fat Canary Restaurant downstairs. The ambiance was just right.
The restaurant serves upscale American cuisine and wines.
Our trip was coming to a close, but not before we made it over to Yorktown for a look at their tree lighting ceremony, with a procession to Riverwalk Landing, a performance by Fife and Drums of York Town, ending with the lighting of the magnificent 24-foot Tannenbaum tower tree. We also took the time to write a personal Christmas card to our military service members.

Final Morning

It was then time to end our trip with a last breakfast at Hohl on our way out of town. We all filled our bellies with a delicious meal before heading home, perfectly satisfied with the wonderful Williamsburg holiday trip.
We will never forget our time in historic Williamsburg, where we saw all the gorgeous holiday decorations that have made this season so special for so many years.
It was truly unforgettable!
If you haven’t been to Williamsburg for the holiday season, add it to your bucket list. You won’t be disappointed!
Until next time!
