What to See and Do in Park City This Winter
Are you a skier? Planning on a ski trip this winter? Today I am going to share with you what to see and do in Park City, Utah during COVID-19. You will be surprised at how much fun we had with our family even while visiting Park City during December and January. Much of Park City is open for business, but masks are mandatory as you will see in this post.
Instead of driving to Park City as we did in the summer, this time we flew from Atlanta to Salt Lake. The Atlanta airport and Delta Airlines created a very safe environment for my family to travel by air in mid-December. We wore face masks and face shields for our flight. Sammy and I sat in a row with the middle seat open which was great. Upon entering the plane the flight crew greets you with a packet of Purell to wipe down your seat area. The cabin service was just a bottle of water and a prepacked snack bag. I highly recommend you purchase food before your flight as this is now a very restricted service.
Many of the things you love about Park City are the same, the mountains, views, and abundant activities. As Park City continues to reopen, you may be wondering if it is safe to visit. My answer is YES!!
We love having a second home in Park City. There’s so much to do all year-round. Since we’ve only spent time in Park City during COVID-19, I can only imagine what wonderful things lie ahead. Being surrounded by beautiful nature and very happy people makes Park City truly special.
This is what I saw every morning from our home. We also had 30 elks visit us on a full moon which was so cool! Bruno woke us up at 2:30 in the morning barking hysterically only to peep out the window to see a herd of elk in our backyard.
Getting in Touch with Nature: Elk Sightings
We also had 30 elks visit us while we were in Park City. Bruno woke us up at 2:30 in the morning barking hysterically only to peep out the window to see a herd of elk in our backyard. The next morning as I was walking Bruno in our backyard I shot this photo of the elk still on the golf course. They tore up the golf course looking for grass to feed on. The bull elk was constantly talking to the herd which was so cool! Elk sounds like dolphins when communicating with each other. They stay as a herd and never moved quickly when they felt a human’s presence.
I apologize that this photo was not shot professionally. Can you see the patch that was dug up by the elks on the golf course? The entire 9th hole was chewed up by the 30 elks. I am sure the country club greens keeping staff doesn’t enjoy have elk chew up the golf course!
Skiing at Park City
Park City is a ski resort town that loves its skiers and you now have new safety guidelines to follow. We only ski at Deer Valley because it doesn’t allow snowboarders and my husband purchased a season lift ticket. I paid as I skied since I wasn’t sure how many times I would be skiing this first season after a 32-year absence. (If you ski more than 8 times it’s a good idea to get a season ski pass.)
Masks are mandatory at all times while you are skiing which is fine since it’s been 30 degrees when I was skiing.
There is a limit to guest capacity on the mountains to provide a quality ski experience and you MUST purchase tickets before you ski.
It was fun having all the children skiing with us. Lots of LaMonte beginners at Deer Valley. I wasn’t the only one who fell! Only my oldest Lisa and my husband were intermediate skiers.
What to do in Park City if You’re Not Skiing?
The following photos were taken last February prior to COVID-19. I completely forgot to write about Park City last winter so you will see my husband shopping without a mask on. Since this summer Park City has a mask mandate that everyone follows. Inside and outside while walking through town.
Shopping
KÜHL (KUL: English translation cool. Scandinavian slang: fun ) is my husband’s favorite store in Park City. He loves this Utah based company.
My husband goes to Kuhl every time we’re in Park City.
There are lots of art galleries in Park City as well. It’s fun going in to see what art is on display. ( HINT: Skiing and large animal heads prevail)
The photography in our dining room area was purchased at Bret Webster in Park City.
Restaurants I Recommend in Park City ( for dining and take out)
We love eating at the following restaurants and enjoyed eating outside last summer. This winter all the restaurants had limited seating for following the CDC guidelines to keep their patrons and employees safe. Thankfully many restaurants were open this winter and some even had igloos, Alpenglobes, and Yurts for alternative outside dining! Read more about alternative dining in Park City here.
I should also mention that most of the restaurants we have eaten at this past year were using QR code digital menus. So don’t forget to bring your camera when dining in Park City! Single use menus are still available too.
Wasatch Brewery
This is a popular destination in downtown Park City and they offer igloo dining.
Five Seeds
This is a great breakfast and lunch that is highly recommended if you want to try something different than your regular eggs with a side for breakfast.
I had the shakshouka, a Moroccan baked eggs with dukkah and feta cheese. Really good and such an interesting combination of flavors!
My husband had the Pulled Pork Benedict which was very tasty but we both thought my Shakshouka was the real winner for breakfast.
No Name Saloon
No Name Saloon & Grill continues to be one of the most popular bars in Park City and is consistently voted the “Best Bar in Park City” by readers of the local Park Record newspaper. The ceiling is a brick laid barrel ceiling adorned with Christmas lights and tons of stuff you would find at a garage sale.
My husband and I stopped in to enjoy a Bloody Mary and enjoy the decor of this fun hot spot.
Cafe Terigo
This cute little Italian restaurant is a wonderful place for lunch and dinner.
Riverhorse on Main
If you are looking for a wonderful date night I highly recommend the Riverhorse on Main. The menu changes quite a bit and is a bit pricey.
Hearth and Hill
Our friends who live in Park City said Hearth and Hill was their favorite restaurant and I couldn’t agree more. We love to have lunch and dinner at this restaurant that is Kimble Junction outside of the city limits. I love the Refuel Salad and order it every time I am in Park City.
It was so fun to watch Gator basketball while being in Park City at the Hearth and Hill.
Snowmobiling
I grew up having a snowmobile in my backyard in Minnesota but the kids have never been on one. The kids went snowmobiling through Thousand Peaks Snowmobiling, located in Oakley about 20 minutes away from Old Main Street in Park City. Thousand Peaks is located on a 60,000-acre private ranch where only their patrons are allowed to ride in the region. They had such a great time as you can see on Sammy’s face!
This was a wonderful day for our son Michael and his wife Jenn, as Nana and Pops took care of their sweet little girls.
Lisa took Sammy on her snowmobile while Lisa’s boyfriend Torrey had his own snowmobile.
Get Your Elsa Fix in a Frozen Ice Castle
Outside of Park City in the little town of Midway Utah is Ice Castles an award-winning frozen attraction located in four cities across North America. It even includes the soundtrack from Frozen 2. It’s fun to take the children but it doesn’t live up to the hype on the website. I was expecting ice sculptures and I only saw ice formations. But if you need an Elsa fix, this would do it!

What to Wear in Park City in the Winter
Answer: Layers and more layers!
Park City is a ski-in and ski-out town so it’s not unusual to see people wearing ski clothes out shopping and dining. Only ski boots aren’t allowed to be worn inside. You won’t be on the slopes all day, so you’ll want to pack a couple of extra sweaters, vests, and warm leggings or jeans for when you go out to eat or shop at the many stores in Park City.
Warm
It’s all about layers when you go out for dinner or shop in Park City. Yes, you can dress down and wear no makeup in Park City but at my age, I prefer to dress up! You will see all types of outfits worn by women in Park City. I suggest you pack sweaters, vests, and a warm hat and gloves when you visit Park City in the winter.
I’m wearing my wonderful faux fur vest and sweater from Peach. You have seen me wear them before but now they are now on sale!

And Warmer
Because the temperatures never get over freezing I highly recommend that you invest in winter coats and boots designed for cold temperatures. Look for coats that are designed for 15 degrees or below. My coat from Fera has the highest warmth rating which is perfect for Park city weather. I also like that it is a long ski jacket that covers my bottom.
My Springer boots from Baretraps Shoes are thermal rated and waterproof. The duck boot styling is essential for your cold-weather wardrobe, and the sweater detail and faux shearling lining make this style next-level cozy.
The boots are designed with Baretraps Thermal Technology: Breathable materials keep your feet warm and dry and temperature rated -5 degrees Fahrenheit/-20 degrees Celsius
