Western Fashion Inspired by Yellowstone, the Television Series
Have you been watching the show Yellowstone? If not, you have something wonderful to binge-watch this fall! I haven’t been this entertained in years since Dallas was on television. It’s a modern western series that is suspenseful, intelligent, and filmed in beautiful Montana and Utah. I thought it would be fun today to wear western fashion inspired by Yellowstone, the television series.
Because this western style has been trending, I thought it would be fun to share with you a style that I would not wear normally in Atlanta but it works perfectly if I was in Park City. I believe a certain fashion style is related to where you live and what you do.
This post is sponsored by American Hat Makers, however, all opinions are my own.
Living in Utah and especially in Park City where Yellowstone was filmed ( season four is now being filmed completely in Montana because of the tax breaks), you will see women wearing more western fashion than in a city like Atlanta. Western-style is popular in southern cities like Nashville but not in Atlanta. Country music, honky-tonk bars, wide-open spaces with cattle and horses calls for western fashion. Embracing something different at my age is always fun.
Yellowstone, the Television Series
It wasn’t until we purchased a vacation home in Park City, Utah that we started watching Yellowstone. Our friends in Park City told us all about the show and where it was filmed in Park City. They even golfed with Kevin when he was in town filming the show! He’s very approachable!
The drama follows John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner, and his family as they attempt to save their massive Montana ranch from a native community and land developers trying to steal back their land.

The Western Outfit inspired by Yellowstone
I just love watching this show and thought about what do I have in my closet that may be perfect for this blog post. My skirt and jacket are over 3 years old. I bought the jacket on a sales rack from Chico’s for $19.99 and never wore it! The skirt is also another sales rack item from Chico’s too. The blouse was another shopping spree this February at Chico’s. The Conch belt is the oldest piece I am wearing that is from Ralph Lauren. The hat and the boots are the only new items for this outfit.
Even though none of the women on the Yellowstone show are my age I thought it would be fun to write about western fashion. This fashion is so uniquely American!
The Breeze Hat from the American Hat Makers
Have you ever heard of American Hat Makers a family-run business in California? They pride themselves on making every hat by hand. The Breeze Sun Hat comes in 5 colors and I selected copper to match my belt. They have a hat size guide so that you can select the correct size for your head. I am wearing a medium.
The Breeze Sun Hat is the ideal combination of breathable mesh crown and water repellent leather brim. It keeps you cool and dry on the hottest of days.
The Snakeskin Boots
I don’t own any cowboy boots but I have 2 pairs of snakeskin boots that look great with the skirt. I just recently posted about the snakeskin boots from Baretraps Shoes.
Snakeskin Boots or booties work well with this long skirt.
Native American Accessories
I always think of Native American jewelry when wearing western fashion. Gorgeous turquoise jewelry and lots of handcrafted sterling silver jewelry are wonderful accessories for western fashion. My turquoise necklaces clashed with the jacket so I opted to wear this olive stone necklace instead. This concha belt has been in my closet for over 10 years. It’s a classic piece that can be worn with anything! If you don’t own a concha belt any wide belt will work too.
Being a girl from Minnesota I thought I would end this post tossing my hat in the air just like Mary Tyler Moore did on her television show that was filmed in Minneapolis!
We’re gonna make it after all!
Are you a fan of Yellowstone? Who is your favorite character? Can you believe that I love Rip the best! I can hardly understand Kevin and he’s my age! Oh well, we are aging!

Yellowstone is on my binge watching list, but haven’t started yet. Love the hat toss to Mary Tyler Moore reference. She was one cool and independent lady.
I don’t think I have one western piece in my closet …. yet:)

I know youre going to love the series!
Very much like Dallas and Dynasty with the women being tough and nasty!
Lots of bad cowboy stuff too!
I need to watch this series. I loved Big Valley. You look marvelous and I favor those boots.
Well this isn’t Big Valley!
These cowboys do a lot of illegal things and no Big Hoss!
I loved that show too!
Right. I’m watching Yellowstone now!
Such a fun post Robin! I love Yellowstone! I’m so bad with names, but I’d have to say my favorite character is John Dutton’s daughter. She’s so crazy and unpredictable! I love your belt too!
Robin – I love that Yellowstone was filmed in Park City. Though I was hoping for a Costner siting! Love the cute hat.
Nancy
I think you’d fit in perfectly! Love Yellowstone – we call it “the bad cowboy show” because of those misbehaving characters! But oh, that ranch…you look like you should have it to yourself!
I love Yellowstone. And the scenery is spectacular. I will be including it in my next must watch on Netflix post.
I am so glad that you have seen the television series!
I was wondering if Yellowstone was showing in Europe!
Yes, we are addicted to Yellowstone at our house. I love your western look today. Isn’t it fun when you have a well collected wardrobe?
I am sure you will rock your hat in Park City!
Rosemary
Thank you for introducing me to a new show to try! My husband grew up out West; the show trailer makes ranch life look quite glam… I’ve never seen a ranch with a home that luxe! (Clearly I don’t hang out with the “right” people! LOL) Love today’s look!
YES YES YES I watch Yellowstone and LOVE the show!!!! Rip and Beth are my favorites. I can’t wait until it comes back with a new season. Your outfit is beautiful.
I don’t know the series but it inspired you to wearing a beautiful outfit! Hope to see you on my Fancy Friday link up party.
Robin, what a fun post! I don’t watch Yellowstone, but my nephew is the makeup artist for the show. Love this look so much on you and especially love the Mary Tyler Moore hat toss!!! You are a class act, my lady!!!!!
