How to Host a Masters Golf Party
Are you a golfer (hacker) like me? This weekend, Augusta National will host the Masters Golf Tournament. This is the first major golf championship of the season and the only one that never changes golf courses. As Jim Nantz of CBS says every year, “It’s a tradition unlike any other.”
It has also become our tradition since moving to Atlanta, hosting a Masters party on the final round on Sunday along with over 50 golfing friends. We love to entertain, and it’s so easy for people to be glued to the television. I will share with you my tips for hosting a Masters party.
Why We Host a Masters Party
We have hosted this party for years until 2020 because of COVID-19. My husband and my sons have attended the golf tournament in the past few years (no cameras are allowed at Augusta National, so there are no photos to share!), but we enjoy watching it on television with our friends. Now we’re back to hosting a few friends, mostly members of our country club, and it’s the easiest party to have other than a Super Bowl Party because everyone comes to watch television!
The Masters is probably the most popular of all golf tournaments, and it is so much fun to see it in person, but I prefer sitting at home and watching it with our golf enthusiasts friends. Augusta National is a very hilly golf course, and it can be exhausting to walk every hole while following your favorite golfers. So why not throw a Masters party and watch it from home with your friends!!
Augusta National hosts the Masters when the azaleas are in bloom, which makes the golf course so picturesque. Azaleas are Augusta National’s most famous plants.
Living in Atlanta, our azaleas are in full bloom now, and so is the pollen. It’s green and all over everything, which means I will be cleaning off all the terraces on Sunday morning before the event because we have our guests sitting outside for dinner. Everyone in Atlanta is used to the pollen, but you don’t set up outside until the very last minute.
This was shot this morning after I cleaned the terrace yesterday. It is already getting dusty again!! I will actually use a shop vacuum every day until the party. The pollen leaves by the first of June, so this is a ritual I do every weekend because I enjoy sitting outdoors.
Food for a Masters Party
The party starts every year at 2:00, when CBS airs the show, and concludes when it is over. I purchase lots of green and white plates to use for the party. The white plates are plastic and get reused every year. (Guess who goes dumpster diving after the party if someone throws them away?)
There is some traditional Masters food served at our party every year. We serve lots of appetizers and finger foods at our party. Someone always brings the Masters pimento cheese sandwich and egg salad both served on white bread, for our party. The main course is salads, sandwiches, and southern barbecue. Dessert is served by the 16th hole in the final round because everyone leaves immediately after the green jacket ceremony.

Use new golf tees to hold appetizers or “Club” sandwiches together like this photo.
Drinks for the Masters Party
We serve all our cocktails in plastic golf cups from our country club. Most people drink wine and beer for our party.
You can do a golf-themed cocktail like this signature Masters Azalea cocktail I found on Pinterest.
Or the Arnold Palmer, half lemonade and half iced tea. If you add Vodka to an Arnold Palmer, it is called a John Daly. LOL!
My dear friend Pat once brought this golf-themed cake to our party. Isn’t this just cute?
Golf-themed Flower Arrangements
If you’re a golfer, this is the easiest party decor to put out. I use old golf balls in my flower arrangements and my mason jars, but you can use new ones. We have a basket full of them from when my husband was fishing them out of the club’s ponds for me to use.
On Saturday, I make all the flower arrangements and put them out everywhere in our home. The main colors of the flowers are green, yellow, and white. Masters colors are everywhere in our house.
I use golf-themed signs everywhere. I use mason jars ( a nod to the south) filled with tees and golf balls, cut a little green grass cover (from Michael’s, in the floral department), and use the triangle-shaped baby banner paper glued onto wooden poles as flag poles.
Television Viewing is a Must for Your Masters Party
We have people everywhere in our home on Sunday watching the final round. The serious golfers head into our home theater, and we never see them again except for refills of food and alcohol.
Most of our friends gather in our family room off the kitchen to watch the final round and be closer to the food.
What to Wear for the Party
This is a country club casual party, and anyone who’s been to the Masters will be wearing their Masters’ shirts, including my husband.
Yes, I already know what I’m wearing for the party, and you get a sneak peek.
I will be wearing clothes that you saw me wearing on my trip to Saint Augustine. I love this no-iron shirt with the white tank and the white pants from Chico’s.
You saw me wearing this outfit in this post.
It’s going to be a perfect day for the Masters’ Party!
Thank you for stopping by!
Do you throw sport-themed parties?
Golfingly yours,
How fun! Augusta is one of the most beautiful courses I have ever seen!
Yes it is!
Many people dont realize how truly beautiful it is until they see it in person at the Masters.
Thank you so much for sharing! I am excited to host a small gathering this year! Love the idea of flowers in the vases with golf balls!!
Natalie,
I hope you have a wonderful time hosting your Master’s party!
We always enjoyed having our golf friends join us on Master’s Sunday.
We probably won’t have a party this year but hope to resume our tradition in 2022!
Looks like a great party! On another note, i love your home theatre room! You wear such gorgeous colors and I love the blue green with purple sweater and the fresh white jeans you styled with them.
Lovely look!

Fabulous post! I am so excited to get my deck set up. The snow has just about melted off it and our days are warming up ever so slightly! I love to make pimento cheese sandwiches too! One of my favorites. So much goodness in this post!

I took up golf 5 years ago and love it. Your crochet top looks fab and a home theatre…wow!
Hilda,
I play every Wednesday with a group of 9 holers and love the friendships that have come out of playing golf.
Thank you for stopping by my friend!
Hugs,
Robin
what fun, have been watching all week
seriously envious of your gorgeous weather there, no golf possible here in Jersey for couple of weeks, too cold
Isabella,
Yes, the weather is gorgeous and the azaleas are in bloom everywhere but you can’t really enjoy the spring weather without cleaning your furniture first.
I am headed out to our terraces soon to do a final vacuuming of the pollen before our guests arrive at 2:00!
Hugs,
Robin
