Moving to a New House? Here’s 5 Things You Should Outsource

Moving to a new house is a lot to handle. There’s the planning, the packing, the heavy lifting, and about a hundred things you swore you’d “just take care of real quick” that end up eating entire afternoons. While it’s tempting to try to do it all yourself, the truth is, moving is one of those life events where outsourcing isn’t just helpful, it’s a sanity-saver. We moved from our townhouse in Park City into a new larger home in April within thirty days from buying the new house to selling the old one. At the age of 68 it was alot more work than we thought so I decided to share five things that you should absolutely hand off to someone else, so you can focus on settling in without burning out.

5 Things to Outsource when Moving to a New House

1.The Packing (Especially the Fragile Stuff)

packing to move

Packing sounds simple until you’ve spent three hours wrapping plates in newspaper and realized your back is staging a protest. If you’re short on time or just don’t want to play box-Tetris for a week straight, hire professional packers. They’re fast, organized, and know how to wrap your glassware so it actually survives the move. You can choose to have them pack just the kitchen or the entire house, depending on your budget and how much wine you need to drink before you’re willing to deal with bubble wrap.

2. Heavy Lifting and Transport

Even if you could carry that couch down the stairs with your partner, should you? Moving large furniture is risky, both for your stuff and your body. Professional movers have the equipment, trucks, and know-how to load and unload efficiently, without scuffing your walls or herniating anything. Plus, if something does get damaged, they’re insured.  Your husband is not. We moved two blocks and had a moving company. It’s the best investment as you get older.

3. Move Out Cleaning

You might think you’ll have the energy to scrub the floors, clean out the fridge, and dust the baseboards after you move your belongings out. You will not. This is one of the easiest tasks to hand off, and one of the most appreciated by landlords, realtors, or new homeowners.

Sparkly Maid move-out cleaning services are a perfect example. They specialize in detailed cleanings that meet move-out standards, so you don’t have to spend hours scrubbing grout or trying to remove whatever mysterious residue is behind the oven. It’s one less thing on your plate, and it increases your chances of getting that security deposit back.

4. Utility Transfers and Setup

Setting up internet, transferring utilities, and canceling services all sound simple until you’re on hold for 45 minutes with your electric company. Services exist that will manage this for you, ensuring your lights, water, and Wi-Fi are up and running when you arrive. It’s worth it to skip the phone tree maze.

5. Junk Removal

Some things just aren’t worth taking with you. Old furniture, broken appliances, or that mattress you’ve been meaning to replace for five years, let someone else haul it away. Junk removal services can be arranged before or after your move to clear the clutter, saving you the hassle of multiple trips to the dump. We donated alot of the old furniture a christian charity center in Park City and the old broken stuff was thrown away.

Don’t want the stress of moving to a new house? You don’t have to have it! As you can see, there are tons of services you can use to outsource the majority of your move, so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the beginning of a new chapter in your new home.

Until next time!
